[PB67 Mjmd] The Mandalay - ARE YOU WITH ME LADS!!!

First off I love this song.

Second it was an insanely bad idea to join either this or PB66. I've never done 3 full pit bosses at the same time (I've done 3, but usually 1 was wrapping up / I was mostly dead). Its hard for to pass up bigger games and I couldn't pass up a diplo game, so here I am. I've never done a full diplo game sooooooo ya I probably am just super noob on.

Anyways, I'm the perfect ally. I'm usually "in it" in some sense, but I always end up 2nd or 3rd through a combination of mistakes and 'other'. Point being that is exactly who players should want as an ally. Someone who is a pain to kill.

Traits for diplo game on emperor on a larger map:

Imp: I'm kind of low on imp for emperor and with a more roomy map its a hard no.
Fin: Better on a larger map with more chance of making it to the late game. In a diplo game people can go "look at x he is looking good and fin hasn't even kicked in yet". So probably not.
Pro: With 6 players it gets slightly more attractive for trade routes, but hopefully have at least 1 ally this game....... With a more land based map GLH is merely good instead of game defining.
Cre: So I love creative. Also, in a diplo game you can set "don't settle past x line" and then take an extra row of tiles. Good expansion trait with little bit of early game.
Org: Its just so free...... you just get the benefit. I'm leaning org as my econ trait.
Cha: If I don't choose creative I'll probably choose charismatic. I like this trait more than most. Its just the swiss army knife of traits and does enough at all stages to make it good.
Exp: MAYBE* but only if the start is especially conductive to early granaries (ie low tech requirements one of which is fishing). I've wanted to try for a while, but usually go with cre or cha instead.
Agg: Its not a bad econ trait, but it takes a while to kick in and i don't think its going to be tight enough for combat I part to matter much.
Phi: maybe with America..... Just to do the thing. But honestly in a diplo game its probably more dangerous to look like you are doing fancy things.
Spi: People make this look good, but not for me.
Ind: Some low number of player game I'm going to pick Ind again. I was already on the fence in a diplo game though. On one hand you can explain "this is my econ trait". On the other hand people can go "look at all the wonders he is building". With score on, I'm probably going to go for a wonders still, but more of a focused nature.

Not sure if we will be snake or block but random civ thoughts:

Civs. America - honestly only one I may pair fin with for early academy . Org Sumeria again - really wanted a larger map for last time, maybe get it this time? Mali?

I've thought about Darius org/fin of India or Inca in the past, but not for a diplo game. Or maybe. I think you are supposed to pick something subtly powerful. I don't think America fits that bill, but I think that UB is broken, so may just pick what I want.

If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

So some people might be disappointed with this start and others might see it as an opportunity to play India! (ie low tech requirements and lots of flatland forests). To be fair tech requirements mean any civ is good to go here, so maybe should choose leader first. But I feel like I've lost "Mjmd always plays India" tag and I don't know if I want to let that go...... The main problem with India is myst starting tech, but could always try for Stonehenge, its been a while.........

River going each way means hopefully easy trade to a second city. That is all I got for now.

If you give Mjmd a start with lots of flatland forests and low tech he will want to play India.
If he wants to play India he will want to build stonehenge.
If he wants to build stonehenge he will want to be Industrious...... You know a trait I said I didn't want to play this game..... grumble grumble.

Man, I'm feeling it though....

Your post sounds like an excerpt from a Civ IV children's book. lol. "If you give a mouse a cookie", "If you let the pigeon drive the bus", etc. I like it. Was it purposeful?
Participated in: Pitboss 40 (lurked by Mr. Cairo), Pitboss 45 (lurked by Charriu and chumchu), Pitboss 63 (replaced Mr. Cairo), Pitboss 66Pitboss 69, Pitboss 74

Criticism welcome!

You weren't lurking for PB60 and my naming theme was "why buy toys for children". Ya I have 3 kids and it was definitely purposeful.

I'm trying to remember the Commodore game, but he had a great ABC? I think kid sing report some game.

84x52 = 4,368 tiles / 6 players = 728/player but we obviously have a water percent, but even at 70% water ie 30% land that means = 218 land tiles per player...... THAT IS HUGE. Like HUGE HUGE. And that is a fairly low land percent. Even if its just a lump of filled in donut with not a lot of water edges that is a lot of land.

If my size calcs are even close to correct Cyrus pick from Bing is just straight a huge mistake. I mean even a PB65 x1.25 map it would be a mistake. Imp on emperor is sketchy at best, but this size???? I mean I like charismatic more than most, but its a utility trait not a carry entire game trait.

Damn who else picks India...... I thought that was the safe half of the combo. I guess a 2nd person picking Industrious meant they wanted to win the Stonehenge race........ Which to be fair I was looking to win over both Ind playing using India........ but now what?

Mali or Sumeria?

Choose Sumeria; hopefully its not too tight otherwise I'll regret not picking Mali. I thought about stealing America from Charriu like India was stolen from me, but I 'm not that mean. I don't know if I'll make a serious attempt at Oracle, but hopefully make the Ind leaders nervous at least. Mainly I don't know if I want to delay pottery. I could do an in efficient growth curve to try to work the oasis as much as possible. I wish the wheat was riverside; lot of lost commerce.
