Humankind/Old World game?

Both are reputed Civ successors, both are on sale at the moment, and I'm a bit tired of Civ VI. Would anyone be interested in piloting Realms Beyond's first-ever multiplayer spins of either of those? Do note I know little about each game - likely, barely even how to play, forget about balancing or strategy.

It would be good to watch an Old World PBEM. I know a couple of posters here were part of the closed beta but not sure how invited they were (for transparency I signed up but then Covid hit and I had no free time to even read the beta forum).

I have played humankind and enjoyed it but the trend here seems to be for old world. I have not played that yet but might be willing to give it a shot. I think I would need to research it /play it a bit first.

I haven't tried either, but considering signing up. I doubt I'd be a 'contender' but should be able to keep a reasonable turn pace and post screenshots for the lurkers.

I was fairly involved in the OW beta, but unfortunately one of there results was me burning out on the game and 4X genre in general (diving into the rabbit hole that is Final Fantasy 14 didn't help)

No worries, Bruindane, I'm not a contender either - I haven't played either game at all. And I expect the tutorials will show me how to do things but not why to do things, so we'll have to work out the strategies for ourselves. 

If we wait for Ginger until after the term next month, then we'd have at least 5:

Which I think is the minimum for a good game. And a fair amount of lurker interest in the Old World as well!

In terms of a start date, I cannot start before December 19th myself.

One quirk / problem of Old World is that the orders system doesn't work well for FFA games. It makes multi-front wars very difficult. The game still allows to go FFA if that's everyone's preference, but the recommended way to play is team vs team
