[PLAYER THREAD] Brian's Awesome Thread of Awesomeness

For the moment this is mostly a placeholder to get my own thread up and running before I forget.

Usual rules apply. Other players if you open this thread (even by accident), you've just agreed to resign in my favour on turn 42 neenerneener .

Gameplay thoughts and naming schemes will be revealed when I think of them.

I'm not much of a dedlurker and need to double-check my calendar when I'm back from holiday at the weekend, but I can probably hang around in this thread and cover your turns when you're away - I'm in the right time-zone at least!

Too late to back out now. You're mine.

Thanks for the offer, shallow_thought, good to have you on board.

Brian:
Arturus Thorne of the Khazad
Enion Logos of the Elohim
Mahala of the Dovellio

Of the three, I like Arturus a lot. Industrious and Organised is a good trait combo and Ingenuity, while not really anything, is a nice little bonus. The Khazad are a dwarven society with a siege and recon speciality, kind of schizophrenic but definitely workable, send in the trebs/cannon to hit the cities and the strength malus for recon units doesn't matter. And their other units aren't nerfed either. Will need pigs for mounted units though.

Mahala is probably the best choice, but the Doviello annoy me and I don't play them often. And I've played Enion before, in PBEM 7 and those memories still scar me. So yeah, Arturus it is I think. To mapmaker, not a definite pick.

In terms of early game, this will be very much map dependent, but with fast building and high workrate workers, along with the civics cost reductions of Org, I think an early rex is in order and we'll go from there. For defence slingers are good and for attack I can leaven in some siege along with the standard cheap meatsacks and mage units.

We're golden.

You dont have mages at arthurus thorne. I think they would be too strong if game allows them to build those.

I'll fire up EitB this weekend and remind myself of what's what. Off the cuff, I have no idea how to play Mahala (or any early rush option). My very basic understanding of MP play is that you want mobile collateral as fast as posssible. Can siege units take mobility in EitB? Can you plausibly just rely on them instead of the mages you can't take? I don't imagine any PBEM going long enough to get to Dwarven Druids (shame).

The Khazad have a bunch of crippled unit lines, but it's by having them flat-out prohibited instead of getting weak versions so it's hard to realize because unit bans are only listed on the Pick Civilization screen.

Rangers are banned, so Feral Bond does literally nothing except enable you to further research Animal mastery for Myconids. Horse Archers are banned, so Stirrups loses lots of value too, but at least you can still build Shadowriders if you go Esus. Mages and Archmages are banned, so not much point going up the Arcane line with only Adepts. Dwarven Shadows and Dwarven Druids are nice to have, but they both come on very expensive techs and are limited to 4 each so they're mostly for playing around in SP.

(They also lose access to Longbows and Marksmen, but they can still make Arquebuses, and Crossbows too if you're willing to eat the blank Bowyers to get to Machinery.)

My favourite magic stops at body 1. I usually use evil priests for collateral.

Last time I played siege units, I remember them taking mobility 1

Unless the EitB meta has changed, I don't think we're going past tier two this game.

Yeah; I'm wondering if just building trebs and axemen (maybe go for the iron Mines?) and then just hammering someone might make sense. Downside of trebs is that even with mobilty they're slower than hasted infantry (particularly compared to dwarven infantry on hills). That might be competetive in terms of beakers invested ...
