Well, if I hadn't previously been convinced that playing this game was a good idea, then having Mehmed II pop up as my first leader option has convinced me (maybe not that it's a good idea, but at least that I'm meant to do it). ref: PBEM1 & PB28
So that was easy enough, Mehmed II of Portugal - naval civ probably isn't ideal, but it sounds like the map will have a decent water exposure and really can I expect to get a better one from a reroll?
Which also conveniently means I don't have to spend too much time looking at the mod's changelog and trying to compare stuff.
To do:
- install the mod on my new computer
- correctly install the mod...
- work out any other new gubbins for connecting to a game
- dig out an old micro sheet and setup for this game

Portugal
I also got that choice in PB59 and I also came to the conclusion it was good enough. Hopefully you also come to the conclusion to start doing sea shanties as your city naming theme and never stop MUAHAHAHAHAHA.
Edit: If you read tech thread of PB72 there are some mod set up instructions in there both from me and others might help you out.

Thanks for the reference for the mod set-up, I'll take a look at that.
I'd honestly forgotten about naming themes until you mentioned it; sea shanties are fun, but I really don't know any that well. I thought about it in the shower and went through some things I know about, but then thought that on a vaguely nautical theme I could go with fish ... which quickly progressed to making a dreadful Blue Brothers joke "I'm on a mission from Cod".
Not sure if I'll go with one of them as the leader name, or with Unhygienix to stick with the fish theme.
Of course someone is bound to have done fish before, but not having read a spoiler thread in a few (5?) years ives me plausible deniability, right?

If you end up doing fish I demand this become your new thread title.
I mean I didn't know a lot of sea shanties when I started either and well over 100 cities later I'm still doing them (/ sea folk songs).

What, no Cod? DISLIKE!
I guess I can learn to live with double-cow+corn.
No change in leader/civ selection.

So I wasn't doing to do a tier list, but here you go:
- Most everyone else
- Dreylin
- Maybe a couple, I dunno?
I'm definitely not going into this with zero effort, but on the flip side I'm also not going out of my way to practice and/or refresh my aged skillz. I've dug out my old sheet and once the game is live I'll double-check numbers against the new mod and run that at least for the first turns.
I'd be disappointed if I were one of the first to be eliminated, but I also know I won't have the time/inclination to manage a medium-large empire on this map so I may take a few "calculated" risks if I make it to the mid-game. We'll see.
Anyway, going to go for the delicious mixed combo of Fish and Blues Brothers, so we'll recruit Jake & Elwood as the first 2 Workers and go through the band there. Cod for the capital and we'll see how it goes.
First order of business will be to pop the hut and then we'll see...

I've logged in and claimed the civ, but pending resolution of the issues with the World Size, I have not moved anything. I did play around a bit and try to familiarise myself with BUG, which I've never played with before.
Also, the server is giving me a "game files do not match" warning before I connect; the connection went fine and the checker reports that my Mod is up to date, so is that something I should expect or a problem I should investigate and fix?
