Wow, that was quite a shock in your back lines. Would not have taken much to avert that setback. I hope you learned some good lessons there. You will also find that those who went to Iron Working much faster will have had a lot easier time of it. I know it's counterintuitive, but in Civ, fortune really does favor the bold, in that it is generally more helpful to attack swiftly rather than try to build yourself up a lot, because the AIs benefit more, relatively speaking, from being left alone longer. Their mobile defense routines are lacking the necessary components in the early going, so they are much more vulnerable then, especially to Praets. Smaller maps also lend more to "rush" attacks of various kinds. You were almost employing the type of strategy that is better suited to large maps.

After i have read the other reports, I understand exactly what you mean by going for IW at once. Ronald's report was almost scary to read..

I definately learned a lesson when i lost Rome.

Nice report. Glad you still managed to win after the temp loss of Rome.
I also was a bit suprised with the starting locations. Isabelle got a good location for her religions but not a lot of room to expand.
