Ok, so our last attempt at starting OSG 20 fell flat, mainly because folks (including me) seemed to be pretty busy. Well, I've got some time, I noticed that Sullla expressed interest on the CIV forums, so let's give this another go...
OSG20 - Cyber Terrorists
Race: Meklar
Galaxy: Medium
Difficulty: Impossible
Opponents: 5
Variant Rules: The object of this game is to advance tech through espionage, and ONLY espionage.
*No tech field EXCEPT computers can be self-researched past level 10.
*No troops may be sent to an alien world EXCEPT if we know every single tech that they do (to make clean-up less tedious).
While the tech aspect of this variant is obvious, perhaps a more subtle point is that no AI world can be captured intact unless they are woefully behind us. This will probably mean that any acquisitions, especially early on, will need much more time to stand up.
The roster is open to the first 4 or 5 volunteers. Let's start hacking some classified data!

Well, by stating that I was interested in running a new MOO succession game, I meant a NEW succession game... not redoing the never-opened OSG20. Personally, I just didn't like the variant, which is why I didn't sign up for it the first time it was posted. While I enjoy running Civ games with sometimes heavy variants, I kind of like playing Master of Orion without too many additional rules piled on. The game's variability keeps it fresh for me with needing much in the way of variants, so I generally don't touch them too much. I know that others disagree, of course, and are certainly free to do so.
What I wanted to play was a MOO version of our current Diablo team variant; with bears on the mind, I thought that a Bulrathi game called "Bearly In Motion" might prove entertaining. Some kind of speed restriction to fit the title, then otherwise vanilla Impossible on a Standard map (which is not a cakewalk by any means with the bears!) But if there is greater interest in running the original OSG20 concept, it won't hurt my feelings, and we can return to it another time.
PS Welcome back from your trip to Italy, dathon.

I would be interested in both concepts, may it be stealthy robots or slow-moving bears.

Fair enough Actually, I've run this variant a number of times and have seen about all there is to see with it, so I'm not exactly glued to the concept myself.
The Bulrathi are actually one of my favorite races. I don't know why, but I usually get into the "spirit" of playing them more than the other races. We tried a variant concept with the bears awhile back where we shunned the use of attacking planets with bombs/missiles. The rational was that a race of powerful fighters wouldn't bother blasting a planet from orbit; they'd do their pounding on the ground Unfortunately, the OSG was frankly ruined by the ridiculously good start we had; half the map was ours uncontested. I've always wanted to re-visit the concept. Might be a stiff order on Impossible, but hey, losing can be fun too
So basically, I'm good for an Impossible Bulrathi game, either with this ruleset, another, or just plain.
Oh, and Italy was a blast! I'm going to try and get the pictures online quicker than Japan, hopefully a month or two instead of a year

Both variants interest me, with a slight edge going to the bears. I will try and participate, but expect me to skip a few times along the way.

I've thought that even something as simple as "must always research gropo techs if available" could be entertaining; not a full variant, just more of a flavor offering.
Anyway, dathon and I can bounce some ideas around tonight in our weekly Diablo game.

Dathon and I talked it over a bit more last night, and the idea of running a simple Bulrathi game on Impossible looks like the most appealing option. The only "variant" would be to research gropo techs whenever they appear (which dathon does already with the bears! ) We current have three players with interest:
Sullla
dathon
TheArchduke
With a "maybe" from StuporMan depending on availability. That's enough to get started, especially if another RBer stumbles along mid-game and expresses interest. I rolled a start last night with Psilon, Silicoid, and Meklar opponents in a Standard-sized galaxy, and will try to play the first turns today or tomorrow.

Game is up, although we may need to restart due to a "too good" position.
