Excellent game, but I think you missed a trick with the early Great Spy - explore seeing as he's invisble to all units (but not leaders) then infiltrate.
When I birthed the Great Spy--who by all odds should have been a prophet--I tabbed out of the game and did some forum research to try to figure out how best to use him. In the end, it wasn't clear to me. I thought of espionage-bombing someone (like Mansa) for techs, but figured I wasn't going to be chasing the AI in techs too often.
Later on, I was happy to have a decent number of espionage points coming in--with minimal slider investment--so that I could see what techs the AI was working on. That was especially useful for timing the discovery of Radio and Mass Media. I didn't think of using the spy to explore. Seems obvious now that you've mentioned it. Thanks for the advice. The espionage aspect of the game is one I know almost nothing about. I think the only spies I built stayed within my territory to try to keep the water supplies from getting poisoned. Suboptimal play for sure.
I did manage to use a Great Spy exploring. That invisiblity is really nice! However I almost totally missed the "spy game" during this game. I only had one spy successfully steal a tech, lost two to discovery and held the others for counter-espionage.
