Guild Wars Site?

Guild War Site?
I pre-ordered and will be in the Weekend Events. We cannot tell how much staying power GW will have but I am sure I will like it for a while to come, and especailly so with a bunch of likeminded folks to venture with.

There is this nagging question whether to WoW or GW. I cannot afford the time to play both games with my current RL commitments so I would have to pick just one. While I don't mind paying a monthly fee to play a GOOD game, and I have no idea how good WoW is, but it is a huge draw back against WoW - Not (just) to myself or anyone willing to pay to play, but more so, have to do with gaming behavior.

Even if GW turns out to be somewhat less than WoW (maybe we are comparing apples to oranges here, I don't know) but remains a good game, I see that GW will have more staying power than WoW for this community. And this is the KEY point - We eventually will get tired of any game.

We started with Classic Diablo the awesome originally and then moved onto D2 and LoD. Tho D2 does not measure up to CD but most of us stayed with D2, and some eventually moved on and not play Diablo at all. However, many come back to Diablo, and quit, and come back... Why, because it is a "good" game and there is a community behind it. This behavior I see with GW. WoW's monthly fee will prevent the causual WoWer from staying and going back.

I am going to buy GW based on the above, and taking the plunge preparing for a RBGW site and opening up a GW forum. I think we have enough folks interested in the game to get a good start and have a good time together. So lets gather some info/inputs:

There are other issues we want to deal with once we get a forum going, issues such as how competitive we are going to be in terms of world wide tournaments and events, which will in turn dictate how some of our characters will be build and team makeup, etc..

- I have with my preorder, a pass for one friend for one Weekend Beta Event for those who have not tried the game yet. Who else preordered and want to pass along their invitation?
BTW, a preorder cost from 5 to 10 bucks depending on where you shop. When I got mine from the local EB, the sales person made it sound like I didn't even have to pay for it.

- Who is planning to buy the game?

Hehe, I am one of those fashion nuts Sirian mentioned. I won't allow any of my characters to wear any form of a cap for this many years until recently I made a variant to wear one - Alley Baba with a (Harlequine Crest) Hardly Davidson cap ;p I was at first put off with the PINK but a touch of the brightness control tuned it down to magenta, and the rising sun and fading rays took a big junk off the pink. I havn't read anywhere yet custom logo is going to be a feature so we may be left with what GW supplies.

- If you have a color preference, what is it?

- Which stock logo? I will try to grab some screenies of logo this weekend.

- And the most important of all. I NEED help/contributors to keep the GW site fresh. I can't go at it alone to keep the site "fresh" and hope to log on decent game hours too. It need not be much work for the GW staff if we have a few willing souls.

I am planning to incorporate some kind of forum ware on the front page so contributors can easily update the site in the form of a post. All we need is news flash to share, update of events, links, etc. And of course writing stories and articles only if you want to. In the case when you need to include more material than appropriate for the front page, I will html and upload it to its proper place.

Come on people, lets see some hands

I'll be happy to help - I also have limited time to spend updating, but I'll make the effort. Let me know what you'd like me to do.

I have bought the pre-order, and so have a free buddy pass that I'd be happy to share with a fellow RBer.

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to get online this weekend, because it's going to be filled with other events, but I ought to be able to play a couple of evenings. I'll volunteer to capture screenshots of different guild tabard designs, if nothing else, LOL.

My favorite color happens to be blue, but if we want to be visible, we'd either have to go with some bright tourquoise (which would be okay), or some other shade - say Nuclear Orange, or Glow In The Dark Green. The great thing is that you can adjust the brightness of the color - so you can get almost any shade. Maybe that will be our first RBGW poll - what color/design? wink We are so fashion conscious, after all!

Cheers,
Hawkmoon

P.S. Here's a link to a couple of interesting guides on The Guild Hall:
http://www.guild-hall.net/guides.php

They cover choice of primary and secondary professions (and reasons for choosing one combination over another), and what attributes do (passive bonuses and skill effects). Food for thought!

I can’t decide between Guild Wars, WoW, and EQ2.

I really don’t have the time or money to try all three.

Monthly fees don’t bother me—when I run up against a real jerk, I actually prefer knowing that at least they are paying money to act like an idiot. I agree that a monthly charge does tend to run out the part-time players (of course, the exp grind does this just as much as the $$$$ in a real grinder—LineageII was the worst I have ever seen on that front).

Actually, since GW does NOT require a monthly fee, I can probably swing BOTH it and one of the big boys, but that will stretch my time a good deal. I also have a LOT of problems playing more than one game at a time, as my mental gears just don’t shift any more…

Sigh.

I guess I don’t really have a point here—I’m just throwing things out for discussion, if anyone feel like it.

Great, good to have you on board thumbsup

I guess you have no real preference on color, as long as you can go naked.

Thanks! I will leave the screenies to you and we won't start a guild until we get a majority on the choice. I wonder if at least some of what we do carry over to release. I know we can reserve names but what about guilds and characters?

I have no idea what anyone can do for the site yet, but one thing for sure, I don't want anyone doing anything unless they want to. The easiest thing to do (for most people) is to act as a news person if they like to surf the net on the subject anyway. Just give us a news flash when something is worthy of sharing with other RBers. Go ahead and find your own niche... look around other sites and see if there's any neat ideas, anything you would like to start up.

I will be working on the site layout and also need inputs on what sections we would like to see (other than your usual front and links page). And if I know Sirian, he would probably have a guide up before the site wink

Happy surfs

This is posted on the Lurker Lounge forum:

Here's an interview a player held with one of the developers about where Guild Wars is heading:

http://www.s90947942.onlinehome.us/phpBB....php?t=120

I find this site informative:

http://www.gwonline.net/index.php

One of the news on that site:

ArenaNet has built up a history of listening to their customers, and the World Preview Event was no different. Many players commented on guild tabards and expressed a great delay of dislike for the current design. Now, ArenaNet has already started to make changes to them. The current design is similiar to the "pole and banner" look associated with samurai.

I have not pre-oreder GW, I will if they have it in Europe shops. I will definately buy the game when it comes out, since there is no monthly fee, it's just like buying any other game.

I did buy the relevant PC Gamer magazine though, which allows me to join one beta weekend. I won't be available for the November's, so I may use it on December or January.

After the initial shock of the pink tabard, a colour that I would not have chosen, it doesn't bother me anymore. Really handy for spotting each other, and cover up much needed modesty of that elementalist outfit. But according to the news on the GWonline.net, ArenaNet is changing the tabard to a "pole and banner" thingy.

Should I repost my WPE experience here, or should I continue to post on that existing thread?

Hahahahahaha.

This is still NCSoft, eh?

Look, I know ArenaNet is a semi-independent division, but NCSoft listens to North American customers like, well, actually, there is no metaphor to express a complete zero. NCSoft is the worst gaming company I have ever dealt with. Sony has a heavy hand, and their forum mods are of the fascist persuasion (post something bad? banned from forum and game...), but they at least listen to their customers to *some* extent, and have forum mods that are *somewhat* in the know and allowed to pass on feedback.

I played LineageII. NCSoft did not give a damn about the North American market, employed no North American programmers, did not modify their product at all for North America, did not solicit, read, or respond to North American feedback, and left their poor NA PR folks swinging in the wind.

ArenaNet may have the best of intentions, and I hope they follow through on them. I am NOT saying we should not play the game, nor am I saying that disaster is looming. I am mentioning that the time might come when their masters will pull the developers off the game to move on to the next project and leave this one half baked.

Just as long as everyone goes in with their eyes open. crazyeye

ps--did I mention that NCSoft has some GREAT servers, but, nonetheless sucks donkey dildoes?

Oh, I (belatedly) realized I have hijacked a web site discussion and should be in a different thread.
