Beta Weekend Nov. 5-7: organizing

This coming weekend is the first beta weekend, open only to buyers of the pre-order and their invited friends. It would be useful to organize a list of those RBers with the pre-order, so that we can figure out how to apportion the freebie invites.

I've bought the preorder and should be around as Mephista the Fluffy and/or Mephista Basin. I started a small Seven Lances guild, but am looking to play with anyone I can find. =)

Hello, just went and bought the preorder yesterday, so if you're planning on organizing an event count me in.

This is "PrinceOfOuch", for those who remember, by the way.

The event will begin at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Saturday morning. It will end at Midnight Pacific on Sunday night.


I guess I will name my first character King Of Pain if that is how one reserves a name. Some one else had my name during the WPE. Lets hope I can grab it first this time around.

We will have to watch this board and report in our names to be added to friends list.

When does the Beta Weekend Event begin? NEW!

The event will begin at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Saturday morning. It will end at Midnight Pacific on Sunday night.

When can I access or set up my Beta Weekend Event account? NEW!

You will be able to set up or access your account when the event opens, at 12:01 a.m. Pacific on Saturday, November 6th.

Will I be able to keep my character names? NEW!

All character names from the World Preview Event have been saved. If you participate in one of the first two Beta Weekend Events, your name will then be reserved into the release version of Guild Wars. If you do not participate in one of the first two Beta Weekend Events, the character names will be released for use by others.

Are my World Preview Event characters saved? Will there be a character wipe? NEW!

For the first Beta Weekend Event, which begins November 6th, your World Preview Event characters will be intact, with their names, levels, and items in place. At some point in the future there will be a character wipe, resetting each character to Level 1. At that time, providing you have been a Beta Weekend Event participant, your character names will be preserved for you into release of Guild Wars.

Can I still get the pre-order for Guild Wars? NEW!

You can preorder Guild Wars at any time. The preorder package was shipped to stores on September 13th, as noted in this press release. Stores that did not receive the package, or that sold out it can still obtain the package from their distributor, and offer it to their customers. Please ask your local retailer to order a copy for you.

I just bought the pre-order package for 5 dollars at my local E&B. Its technically a $5 deposit to reserve the game when it comes, but details details. I have my invite! Plus, I have a one-weekend-use a guest invite for anyone else that needs one.

I bought the preorder and the game through Amazon, but there's no way they will get the preorder disk to me by this weekend, and I'm not even clear if they will send it at all or intend to wait and ship it with the game (in which case what's the point?)

Anybody else know what to do about this? I do not intend to make a 30mi round trip to Electronics Boutique -- twice! -- just to get the preorder for this weekend and also have to put up a deposit and buy the game from them when it comes out.

Have not yet had an opportunity to preorder the game but would like yo get on at least for a bit this weekend anyway. I might be able to pre-order on the weekend but well see. If there is a spare "guest" slot available, that might be a safer bet.

Sirian, the Guild Wars site has a notice about those who have ordered the pre-order, but not received it yet:

"If you have preordered the game but have had difficulty getting your code in time, or have experienced other difficulties, you can help us track this problem by dropping us an Email to outline your experience. We will do our best to assure that you are able to obtain access to the upcoming event."

You might try e-mailing them; if that doesn't produce results, I'd be happy to e-mail you my freebie code so you can get on this weekend (hawkmoon@triad.rr.com). Can someone get in contact with Zed so that he can get a code? (and post when you do so that we know it's been taken care of)

I will not be able to get online until Saturday evening. Nonetheless, I'd like to party with you guys, so we ought to decide whether we're going to continue with our WPE characters, or create a new party (note that our WPE characters will be rolled back to level 1 at some point). I'm up for either option. If we're going to create a new party, I'd opt to create a new warrior/monk (again), or a monk/necromancer.

Can others post their character preferences so that we'll have a balanced party?

I don't know whether the guilds will carry over from the WPE, or if they've all been wiped. GWOnline did say that the tabards are out, the samurai-style pole-and-banner is out, and that capes are the current design. It will be interesting to see what our characters look like!
