Succession Game Anyone??

Whilst waiting for the next Imperium to surface, would anyone out there be interested in a good old SG? I'm completely open to whatever setup the players would like. The team would consist of 4-6 players and follow the same sort of turn setup as SG2. The game would likely start sometime between saturday night and monday night. If interested, apply within and feel free to suggest a setup you would like.

I would be interested. I started playing the game this Spring, and am up to winning just about every time on Hard (couple diplomatic losses to early runaway Silicoids). I haven't played Impossible yet, but as long as I'm not the first one out of the gate, that shouldn't be too much of an issue. As for setups, I am completely open. My fav race is the Meklars, least fav the Sakkra.

i would suggest medium or large galaxy (not huge!) on hard difficulty.
as for races im open to anything except psilon or humans. (ps i like sakkra smile )

I'll play SG moo--any race, as long as it's hard/impos--Fair warning, I scrap fleets as soon as the tech populates to redundant them, so don't expect the 1 laser per colony bluff smile

Well, it looks like we have enough interest to have one anyway smile. We'll wait a day or 2 and see if some more people express interest.

@ Alan - I've no problem with scraping old ships when they are no longer useful. It's income saved to do that anyway. I don't like to bait the AI with those old designs either. I'd ratrher let the AI keep paying maintenence on THEIR outdated fleet. I genearlly only build laser fighters to park over colonies that can't (yet) defend themselves with bases anyway, although I have a small map game going on right now that I'm actually attacking with them and with warp 2 nuclear bombers eek.

As far as race/level goes, I've been thinking about that today. RBO1 featured the Bulrathi, and RBO2 featured the Klackons, so I don't wan't to play them. The last Imperium and my afforementioned private game feature(d) the Darloks, so thats out.

Of the other 7 races, only the Humans and the Sakkra have yet to surface in an Imperium. I suspect, but do not know, that the Huge/Impossible Imp 6 probably features one of them, most likely the Sakkra as they are the easiest race to learn how to play a huge map on since rex'ing won't leave you population hosed. Because of that, I'd rather avoid the Sakkra. Most people don't like playing the humans much......

So where does that leave us?

Well, how about this:

Imp 5 featured the Silicoids in a small galaxy, which is totally suited to them in most cases, although the layout of that particular map wasn't as favorable for the race as it could have been. How about we try them in a Large galaxy (no way I'm playing a Huge in a SG lol ), where the population growth rate can be a serious problem for them. We could play this on Hard or Impossible.

Annother idea would be the Alkiri on hard in a large galaxy with a can only build small or medium ships (except for colony ships of course) restriction, which would make ship designing interesting if the game went into the higher tech levels (auto repair = worthless, how to fit repulsors/dissipators/bhg's/etc. onto designs..)

Finally, we could try the Mrrshans with no trade/nap's/alliances ever (we COULD make peace treaties though. Lets not go "allways war" here, not yet anyway.)

I'd kind of prefer to use the first idea, since it's a non varient, unless others prefer otherwise. Then we could keep the other 2 ideas in reserve for later.

The only requirement for a start would be a habitable planet of at least size 40 within 3 parsects of the homeworld, or at least 60 if it's Ultra Poor.

Turn order will be determined randomly unless somone prefers a particular slot. Turns will be 20-20-15-15-10 thereafter.

The game will be played over at CFC as allways, since they have the convenient upload server.

Unless anyone objects, I think we should set a minimum victory level of at least 50% of the pop + having recieved the "leaders are preparing to merge with us" message, or 2/3 of the pop to make sure we all get a couple of turns each.

I'm probably not going to be arround tomorrow, but should be arround saturday night, so we could either get started Saturday night or Sunday night.

I could stand to participate in an SG, if you need another player. I prefer medium maps to large, (and small to medium) but could handle a large if that's what people would like. Hard is fine. Alkari with no large ships isn't a variant, that's normal. wink What do you need larges for when you have stacks of small bombers that are impossible to hit? Silicoids are fine.

i would prefer the alkari or mrrshan variants over the vanilla silicoid game.
(btw i play alkari "only medium+small" all the time too...)

i dont know about the turns-stacks, but i would judge them a little bit to short. i never played a moo1 SG yet though...

turn order random is fine with me.

I like the Silicoid or Alkari option. Evreything else sounds good.

Real quickly on my way to work.

@ Zed - Welcome aboard. Yes, Alkiri with just small/mediums isn't much of a varient. The way I usually play, any race with just small/mediums isn't much of a varient until repulsors. The only time that I build Cruisers usually is to haul arround 2 space beams and toys later on. The only time I build dreads usually is to build the highly shielded/auto repair indestructible sort of ships that sometimes are needed very late into a game. In general though, the cheapest way to get firepower into space is to put it on the smallest platform possible.

I usually play small maps too, but wouldn't want to try that for the first SG, especially not for the Silicoids if we go that way.

@ Therlun - The turn stacks was pulled from the last SG that Zed ran. I've never been in a moo sg either, but it seemed to work well in that game. Myabe Zed can give some input on this.

@ - all. The alkiri option seems to be the most popular so far, though I haven't heard from Alan yet. My schedule is looking more like a sunday/monday night start. In the next 48 hours, please vote for either Alkiri or Silicoid, and if Alkiri, for either Medium or Large. Lurkers can cast their vote for what they'd like to see too, and if the players are sort of evenly split or don't care one way or the other, we'll just play what most people would like to see smile

Edit:

[Image: icon4.gif] There is still one more slot open if anyone wants it. [Image: icon4.gif]

Whatever idea we don't use this game, we can use later on, as I'm thinking of running SG's durring lulls between Imperia from now on. If anyone has ideas for future games, either post them somewhere or pm them to me.

Also, I thought about saying only smalls period for the Alkiri, but what if you don't get anything smaller than pulson missiles or Omega V bombs eek. I might try this one privately....
