GalCiv2

I got an email message tonight about galciv2.com being open only to those who bought the AP expansion. Previews, maybe even betas. There was one bit of potentially encouraging news in this message: they are NOT close to releasing. Sounds more like sneak peeks and community feedback.

My needs haven't changed. The AI needs a massive upgrade for the game to be worth my attention. The original was a load of fun until I had solved the paths to victory and boiled the game down to a few essentials. Do this, you win, don't, you lose. Not enough game left after that to hold my interest, even though I really liked a lot of the game's elements.

Anyway, that's all I know for now. Not sure when I'll learn more. I don't exactly plan to contribute to their effort, but I would be happy to see them be successful. Maybe I'll check out one of the beta versions, if my purchase of AP is good enough to open that door. If I see things moving in an encouraging direction, I'll be happy to buy the next version and give it a whirl, whenever it's finally ready.

Anyone else have thoughts on this subject?

Heh. I got the same email last night, and almost forwarded it your way. I caught the same feeling that you did on their timetable--looks like this sequel is not going to be a rush job. I am not surprised to read their attitude on player feedback--that was one of their strengths. It was unfortunate that they had closed the door to major gameplay changes at the time we were finding and discussing the problems with the AI. I would love to see their effort succeed, and may be able to help push on items.

I'll check in to the old GalCiv board in the next week or so, and see if I can renew contact with some of the folks who saw the same kinds of problems with GC1 that we did.

Cool, thanks.

Oh, and in other news, where have you been hiding? And exactly how much dough ARE you making, that you can fund night after night of wall to wall internet shopping by the spouse? lol

Heh. The blessing is that my wife can take care of her own financing. The curse is that my wife can take care of her own financing. lol The worst part is that jewelry is seriously addicting. eek "Whaddya mean you want more diamonds. The saving grace is that she likes the shopping more than the buying (yet another thing I just don't get).

The funny thing is that I keep getting the "pick which one you like" questions. Ugh. Ask me if I like one thing...I am no jewelry critic, but I know what I hate. Jewelry is not my thing--one ring only. I don't even wear a watch. Ah well. There are worse fates in life.

As to where I am--mostly playing D2, though I was able to pry the laptop out of her hands for the WPE of Guildwars.

This is potentially very good news. I tried out the game after most here had quit because of the AI and, like most of you, enjoyed myself until the AI became too easy.

All the first game would have needed to keep my attention was:

1) Better/Less Predictable AI
2) Ship Design Elements ala moo
3) Individual Planet Sliders ala moo

If they did that and noting else, I'd be happy.

I didn't buy AP, so I won't be in on any of the testing I guess.

Keep us updated smile

For those interested (and have purchased AP), they do have an official Galciv 2 web site up which shows progress.

On average, everybody thinks they are above average.
