I'm actually playing Civ3 again

After the way Infogrames/Macsoft screwed the Mac players on Civ3, I didn't think I'd ever play it again. For those who don't know, Mac players never got/never will get the expansions, either PTW, or Conquests.

However, Brad Oliver got the game up to 1.29f, and I found the DYP mod, so I'm back to actually enjoying it single-player at 1.29f+DYP. That is, when I'm not flying in Warbirds' arenas.

Anyone here remember me? lol

I remember. hammer

DyP, that's quite a megamod. Considering that your pleasure was zero while you could not play at all, though, I hope you are getting considerable more than D out of it. wink

I've thought about trying out DyP, but here at RBCivland we have always leaned on simple and minor twists to arrive at altered states, rather than major rewrites and additions. That's probably my fault. Through well over fifty Descent levels crafted, my own tastes were to seek to prop up that game's weak points or imbalances or tailor new gameplay recipes via a dash of spices, rather than whole other sets of ingredients. I was always happy with most of Civ3 and didn't want to toss it out, just fix the holes and vary the scenarios and let the good times roll. dance

I'm glad that you are able to play again. Maybe write us some DyP reports and whet our appetites. Some of us may be motivated to try it if we see someone else having fun. nod

Well, you have to remember, I'm stuck at 1.29f, unexpanded Civ3, while you guys have C3C and PTW, so, some of the stuff I have is akin to what you have in expansions.

I can only hope Atari owning/buying out (IIRC) Infogrames means Civ 4 and expansions will be handled as well on the Mac side as Bioware handled NWN/SOU/HoTU.

I'll let you know what I find out. It slows the game a bit. 94 new techs. Gonna take me a while to find the paths, but that's the fun part.
