SPOILERS-Tatan's PBEM10 Thread

EDIT: For those of you just joining us who don't feel like sifting through this whole thread, my civ/leader is Napoleon [chm/org] of the Dutch.

In abiding by the fine tradition of cluttering up the first post with irrelevance, I give you:

So, a note about me [me, me, me]. I hold no illusions about my playing skills in Civilization; I am only a Prince level player, with my primary weakness being micromanagement. I find it tedious and with little benefit in SP, and so tend to simply use the AI governor for deciding what tiles to work. Building and managing workers is also something I've never quite been able to master. Of course, I will have much more time to plan out my moves here, so I will TRY to actually work the tiles myself, and build more than two workers for an entire empire. However, this being my first real try to actually micromanage, don't make too much fun of me in the Lurker Thread.

Honestly, I don't expect to win this game. In fact, I will probably end up being in the bottom half. But the point is: I WILL TRY!!! I will try to fight on no matter WHAT, no matter HOW HOPELESSLY SCREWED I AM! My goal in this game: impact the other players, warping the game around me. Chaos is my friend. And if I have players simply tripping over themselves to kill me, to get me out of the way so they can be left alone, I know I will have done what I set out to accomplish.

Smiley perfectly capturing my feeling about this game:

Civ non-choices:
In terms of non-choosing leaders and civs, the decisions were actually pretty easy. Protective on leaders is basically a must, and I thought that this being a NTT game, the worst leaders are the ones with protective + a non-economic trait. Organized also isn't that useful because the difficulty is only noble. Hence, so far my first choice ended up as Churchill [Pro/Chm]. In terms of civs, I thought water-based civs might have the potential to suck, but would rather not take the risk that Kyan produced an Archipelago Adventure map. So my top, I mean bottom, non-choices were Sumeria [Ziggurats come earlier and cheaper, but at a time when you don't NEED them yet, and Vultures are straight-out worse than axeman.], Arabia [Camels' withdraw bonus is relatively trivial, and Madrassa trades culture for priest slots, which is usually not exactly a good trade.], and the Celts [Extra guerrilla bonuses all around, huzzah! They will be marginal unless we are stranded in a mountainous map.]. I ended up non-going with Sumeria first pick.

And to make this post more prettiful, the smiley I have always wanted to use:

Yeah, just the filename of your image gives it away. I am familiar with the band, at least, though. smile

They are? Vultures do just as well as axemen against melee units, 6 + 25% = 5 + 50%. And vultures are better against anything non-melee, with higher base strength. I've only ever used them in one game, Ruff's super-cramped Adventure 44, but they seemed decent enough to me there. Agreed on the Ziggurat though, on Noble it is pretty much a non-benefit.

I am basing the thing about vultures being worse than axeman on something I read in the Dreylin+Kalin thread from PB1 [which has vanished for some reason]; it said that because of the way that civilization calculates combat, a straight up axe vs. vulture battle will give slight odds to the axe. So will vultures can act as a sword replacement by being better than axes vs. archers, they aren't as good vs. axes, which doesn't seem like a very good trade-off to me in MP. Of course, this being my first MP game and me also being a total n00b, I could be wrong.

Heh. Confusion will be your epitaph?

Naturally.

Well, as you may or may not have noticed, my second two were Gilgamesh [Cre/Pro] and Arabia. As an aside, I think every protective leader except Wang Kong [who has financial] has been selected. Big surprise.

I'll post some analysis once the last pair is selected.

It's vanished since there have been no new posts there for a while. Under user control panel -> Edit Options -> Thread Display options -> Default Thread age cut off, you can choose when a thread has been old enough to not show anymore (or you can show all of them).
