Any enthusiasm for a remake out here?

Hi!

So im working on a multiplayer version. I find that nuances of the game make large parts rather boring. Which translates to slow progress.
I want to make this open source as soon as there is something working, but reaching that point alone is rather a chore Im afraid.

It would help a lot if I could get some support or cheering on or something like that.

So... anyone would be interested in this?

'Multiplayer' nowadays means online, and online means either peer-to-peer or client-server, which in turn means you have to write two programs at least.

A MoM MMOG is an idea I've been feeding for quite a while now, but you know, it is never the right time for presonal new projects. Anyway once you start you can have my help with the client part.

Lolwut. Multiplayer just means... more than 1 people playing the same game?
Sorry, no MMOG in the making here.

It would finally allow for easier expansion of the game. Bonus points if you make large sections of it both modifiable and syncronisable, so that each person can tweak the game how they like, then when they go online they can choose which player's version to use for that game (or default).

I would like to do pixel-art for it, such as race-specific buildings and portrait-specific fortresses, although this is a relatively pointless thing, and I don't know the dimensions and file types you want to use.

The plan is to use the graphics in the original, and also allow for deviations(like, new race should be able to get new graphics). The plan, tough, is; that the UI is decoupled from the game state, so one can write a new UI for it (like, improved resolution graphics or somesuch).

I already made some progress extracting graphics from lbx files (Implodes code helped loads).

I plan to make units, races and to some extent special abilities and spells as data and not code. This will allow for easy balancing later.

Do you mean words, or actions ?

Im not quiet sure what you mean.

If you mean im all words and no action, i alredy have made some progress.

If you mean wether i need words or actions to motivate me, both are welcome.
In fact, I think ill make a unit editor cos anyone could then help me sort trough the abundant amount of graphics. Ill put that on the list right after the UI is showing something. But simply stating that you would play with it should keep me motivated...

Of course lots of people will say they would like a MOM remake (just look at Jack's thread). But few of them can or intend to help.

Im sure thats not the case.

I can think of a lot of tasks that people with no other skill than a good knowledge of the game could help me with.

For starters, I could do with an identification of all the graphics. I am working on a small helper program that would extract graphics from the lbx files and people could tag them as what they are. Then I could have another small program that would allow unit editing, and that could use the tags to id graphics belonging to the unit. There are some details I still have to think trough, but this could work like this.

Could'nt start a new thread so i,l post this here.

Did anyone manage to extract the graphics files, not sure how an old game handles those, what would be the best way to perform a graphical upgrade ?
