A quick WTF?!

On the official site you can pre purchase the standard Diablo 3 for £44.99

On Amazon you can pre purchase what looks like the same version for £27.91

What the heck is up with that huge difference in price? Are gamers fools to buy directly from the makers sites?

Yeah I don't get why Direct Download would be more expensive than the hardcopy of the game.

I'm pretty torn, because I want to play the game as soon as it is available, but having to pay 14 Euros extra...

Also, when buying directly from Blizzard, why the hell is the game 59.99 Dollars (= 44.91 Eur at current exchange rate) in the US, and 59.99 Euros in Europe?

They very rarely discount things on their site. They still sell SC2 for too much even though it's been out for ages. Most likely what happened is Amazon had a sale and blizzard didn't because they have a monopoly on direct download...

Really wish people would stop repeating that like they actually know who's calling the shots.

Personally I think it's ridiculous that you'd expect to get as good of a deal ordering from a US based store than ordering from a UK based one. Blizzard doesn't have shops in the UK for selling nor would you normally expect their prices to be focused on that market.

From what I see the price on Amazon is up to £32.91 now so they were either having some sort of pre-order sale or just don't have their pricing sorted out yet for some reason.

If it makes you feel any better, it's $60 in the US amazon, just like the Bnet site for us.

Short answer: Yes. wink

It's the same with Steam: Outside of a sale, buying a digital copy costs more than ordering a boxed version at Amazon here in Germany. That being said, UK prizes are even better. So it is not uncommon for gamers to order PC or PS3 games at amazon.uk/ebay.uk and have them shipped to Germany since even with the additional shipping cost it is cheaper than buying here. I just saved 10 EUR on the Dark Souls Collecter's Edition a few weeks ago ordering from ebay.uk.

Aside from that, ordering from the UK also ensures you get an English version rather than a localized one. Doubly so if they recorded localized voice-acting as well. wink

That shouldn't be a problem. Once you've registered the game with b.net, you can select a different language and download the client for that language for free. At least that's how they did it with Starcraft II - I bought and installed the German version, and then downloaded the English version.

Once D3 is registered to your account you can download any language you want that they have available.

What's English (SG) though?
