Hi,
I've completed a 3CC game on Monarch going for a cultural victory, and wrote a report about it. You can find it here on my site - comments welcome!

Fun game. Cool that you suffered the Barbarian Setback and still overcame it.

Why didn't you use 2 great non-Artists to start a Golden Age ?

(This could be completely wrong as I don't have the game yet, but) I have read the GA will increase production and commerce just like Civ3. And once again like Civ3, you benefit more when you have more cities (ie; weigh a 2 city Despotism GA vs. a 15 city Republic GA) - since Kylearan only had 3 cities the whole game, maybe it wasn't worth it? Just a guess.
Thanks for the story Kylearan. Both ones you have written were fabulous! I want the game so much now.

Great Story Ky! I just finished a cultural victory on Prince (after getting invaded and destroyed when I tried it on monarch). I didn't limit myself to 3 cities either, so I'm doubly impressed. I used Elizabeth (Philisophical, Financial) and used both traits to great effect.
Has anyone tried doing a cultural victory without having the Philisophical trait? I think it would be exeedingly difficult, myself.

I had one prophet constructing the shrine and two scientists constructing academies, which I felt I needed more than a GA (long-term investment!). Apart from that, I got the two merchants and an engineer, so I could have indeed started the GA with the engineer. However, he came quite late, and at that point I don't think the GA would have made much difference, because I no longer researched, and no longer produced anything meaningful. I have to confess I don't know how my cultural output would have been increased by the GA, but rushing Hollywood with the Engineer was similarly effective probably at that point.

I haven't tried it, but I think it would be perfectly doable without the 100% birth rate increase. This bonus is very nice, but it doesn't mean you'll get great artists at double rate. Once you've built buildings like the Parthenon, adopted the +100% birth rate civic etc., the difference of (let's say) 250% and 350% isn't THAT huge - it only would take a bit longer. And if you're allowed more than three cities, you wouldn't need as many great artists as I needed anyway.

Hardly. I preordered from Amazon (with Super Shipper Saving -- aka the "we'll deliver it ... eventually) and it shipped late last week. Now I'm supposed to get it in 1 - 2 weeks. I probably would've just been better off getting it from a brick and mortar store, anyway, now I just have to wait.
