Aureus mod (MOM 2.0) revised - please update your links

Dear all,

It's a bit late, but I made the necessary revisions to MOM2.0 to eliminate the Naga-Wind Mastery "bug." No other changes were made, really, except some very minor adjustments (such as to the help file).

It took me a little longer to post this because I had to redo the entire readme file (MOM2.0R) - after four years I had lost the original document. It has been streamlined a bit; it should read more clearly. Despite my efforts, there may be errors in translation or ambiguities, so the original MOM2.0 pdf has been included in the .rar file.

ILS and others - could you please update your links? [I'll leave the link here temporarily so that forum users can access it]. The cat is out of the bag, so to speak, but it would be nice to have this revised version available online for those who want to take a look at it.

It would nice to sticky (?) the thread with the new link(s).

With the new exciting Insecticide (1.40) engine, there are already tons of great new mods out there. Hopefully a balanced game, with varying strategies and tactics, can be put together. I look forward to seeing where the new era of Master of Magic takes us!

Very good Aureus! thumbsup

I'm happy to see you're at work again. smile

Even if most of the others do not reach the complexity of your (at least my quick mod, where the changes are negligible compared to your), probably the many mods revamped you the joy to mod the game.

BTW what about changing the title to something like:
Aureus mod (aka MOM200)
to avoid confusion to newcomers between the patch Insecticide 1.40* that fix bugs and the mod.
BTW2 is this mod based on 1.31, right?
Only the people crazy enough to think they can change the world of Arcanus and Myrror can do it. rolleye

What's the most straightforward way to play 1.40n + the Aureus mod?

I think you need to overwrite everything but wizards.exe (Aureus files into Insecticide folder), then use the unit editor and hero editor to change back all unit/summon/hero statistics according to Aureus mod.

No, of course. There is a lot of work also. Even spelldat file must be corrected right to work with aureus mod.

That's a pity. It means that there is no easy way to enjoy the Aureus mod with 1.40n, or subsequent ones.

The proper way to do this is to come up with export and import programs. MoMtweaker might be able to do it in some undocumented manner (possibly just load one file and write to the other file, depends whether the tweaker does a full overlay or just patches bytes).

Way to go Aureus! smile

I've update the link on my page:
http://kaarsen.home.xs4all.nl/MoM/index.htm
to the one you gave in the first post.

However, the link in the downloads section is linked directly to the zip file on my web site.
Zitro or Catwalk will have to update that one.

Zitro?
Catwalk?

Oh wait!
Did you perhaps want me to copy the files, and make them accessible on my web site?

Linux/cygwin diff+patch will do the trick.
It will take the original MoM1.31 files, the MoM2.0 files based on it, and the MoM1.40+ files based on it.
With those, diff+patch can do the work (with the right command line parameters) and generate MoM2.0 files based on MoM1.40+.

For reference, I once wrote this procedure:

Procedure to reapply a mod to a new Insecticide version

The procedure will upgrade your mod to a new Insecticide version.
Your modifications will be different parts of the files, so the upgrade can be made without problems.
If there is a problem however, it will be reported by patch, in which case we will have to figure out how to resolve that.

The steps below work in Linux, or in Windows with Cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com) if you have the related packages installed.

This procedure assumes you have a mod based on 1.40h and want to upgrade it to 1.40i.

1. Put the files that Kyrub published for 1.40h in the directory insecticide-1.40h

2. Put the files that Kyrub published for 1.40i in the directory insecticide-1.40i

3. Put the files that are the combination of Vanilla (1.31) with 1.40h and with your mod in the directory MAGIC-1.40h-mod

4. Remove the duplicates of WIZARDS.EXE and MAGIC.EXE if they exist, since Kyrub released wizards.EXE and magic.EXE (lowercase).

5. Create the insectide-patch with the following command line (case-sensitive!):
Code:
$ diff -Naur insecticide-1.40h insecticide-1.40i > 1.40h-to-i.patch

6. Create a new directory where your upgraded mod will be placed.
Your old directory can serve as a backup.
Use the following command line:
Code:
$ cp -R MAGIC-1.40h-mod MAGIC-1.40i-mod
7. Apply the patch with the following command lines (case-sensitive!):
Code:
$ cd MAGIC-1.40i-mod
   $ patch -Np1 < ../1.40h-to-i.patch

8. Done. Enjoy! wink
