Analysis Post:

Nicolae: Mansa Musa of France - tech and switch civics a lot.
MH: Bismark of Ottomans - expand and build wonders.
Dazed: Darius of Egypt- tech and tech and tech. And tech. Oh, and war chariot rush someone.
AT: Mehmed of Holy Roman Empire - hope I don't die from a warrior rush on turn 10. Lansdsknecht are actually pretty awesome, but specialized.
Commodore: Isabella of Sumeria - Expand and swtich civics a lot.

There's a good chance we all survive for a long time - no one has an early offensive UU.

Bans:

Bans:
-Spy civic/religion missions
-Naval blockades
-Nukes
-War Elephants
-India/Inca/Willem/Pacal/Sury

Spies are on, which is different. Will have to set up some form of net once we get close enough to each other...

i'd say Vulture is an early offensive UU ... true, it looses some of its luster by playing MP since they're stronger against Archer defended cities, but ...

true - but axes get odds on vultures, all other things being equal.

that said, I'm deliberately not doing a LOT of analysis on this wink

I hope we get water on this map - org/exp is a lot better if lighthouses/harbors are available...

allright - so, my starting techs suck, my UU comes late and 1/2 of my cheap buildings are water level dependent.

On the other hand, i have the most awesome cost reducing building in the game and I get it half-price.

So, that aint' bad.

I guess I can hope for deer and fur in my fat cross. or everyone starts with cows...

Settling in place?
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

oh yes - I thought I'd taken that pic after I had settled. Yeah, no reason not to. Deer in forest is a great tile, anyway.

My plan for a naming scheme:

Bethlem
Danvers
Mclean
SHip of Fools
The Ridges
Pilgrim
Topeka
Broadmoor
Weyburn
Bridgewater

Thinking of adding Betty Ford to it... what do you guys think?

Renamed Aachen to Bethlem, found the ocean to my west. Set research to mining.

I'm last in EVERYTHING in the demos frown

Except life expectancy.

Course, I'm also first in most things. Everyione SIPped, everyone is working the deer (no surprise, of course - it's quite a strong tile)

I get a boost from knowing hunting (weird), the fin civs get an immediate boost from the cottage once they hit size 2 though.
