Cool! Mucho thanks smile Looks like I have some reading to do...

Right on. What would be cool is if someone could set up a Google doc or something so that we could create an errata document. That would be super cool.

Thank you zygot. I was looking for this one myself and couldn't find it.

Thanks for the pdf. Why can't you create a Gmail account yourself? I believe it's coming with Google docs.

I've heard of the strategy guide, but don't know much about it. Is it considered authoritative and accurate or is it more of a curiosity?

It's not perfect, but pretty close...

The strategy guide seems to have a few errors that are discussed in various threads here. On the whole, though, it's an amazing work. As I recall, Alan Emrich not only led the work on the book but also contributed a lot to aspects of the game design itself. They just don't make strategy guides like this anymore, it was a different era.

As for an errata document, it's not setting up a Google account that's the issue, it's that I'm hoping someone else wants to pick up and lead a project like that. My part was buying a used copy of the book and sacrificing it for science; I know there are people on this forum who are more skilled in math and assembly language who can actually detect, figure out, and clarify some of the remaining questions about how the game works.

Thank you for your sacrifice, Zygot! It would have broken my heart to tear my printed copy of this masterpiece into pieces. Unfortunately, I am already running too many projects in order to support the creation of an errata document.

I've run into strategy guides that are little more than bits of information you'd pick up anyway after a couple of games, or just flat out wrong because they were rushed and based off of pre-releases of the game. This seems like the real deal. 403 pages! shades

I've started going through it and have already learned a few things even though I haven't gotten to the "meat" of it yet.

"When you're informed that a planet's industry
or population has reached its
maximum, readjust the Ratio bars
immediately. Some people are in the habit
of simply clicking forward to the next event
when notified that a planet's growth plateau
has been reached. However, the
planet's various Ratio bars are active when
these notification boxes appear.
Therefore,
it is better to adjust them the instant these
notification messages appear, rather than
to try and remember to "get back to them"
later in that turn."

You're telling me almost 20 years and I did not know I could do that? duhduhduh

Zygot, thanks for taking the time and effort to scan this!
