Homeworld 1 & 2 reportedly being remade

Gearbox software recently bought the licence to the Homeworld games, after THQ went belly-up. And they have anounced HD remakes of the two game (which IMO are extremely beautiful as they stand), as anounced on Digital Spy here. They also have a forum to discuss their plans about the games and hopefully another sequel here.

Now I'm unsure about GearBoxes bone fides re the Homeworld series, mainly as I'm not familiar with the company, but if even there is only the new HD versions of the existing games coming out I am pretty stoked about this.

Edit: the only reason I stumbled on this month old news was because of my semi-regular searching for Homeworld 3, since I heard rumours of the game being developed a few years back.

I loved these games when they came out. I would almost certainly pick up HD remakes of them. Another sequel would be great, but I hesitate to get my hopes up about it. There have been several rumors of one in the pipes that have amounted to nothing, so until something more concrete from them is said I will avoid getting too enthusiastic. Also, while I like the Borderlands games, I wonder if Gearbox can handle making a strategy game of the quality I'd hope a Homeworld game would be. They haven't done any strategy games, and thin addition to Borderlands also did Duke Nukem Forever, which was awful, and that new Aliens fps, which I haven't played but is almost universally reviewed as awful.

I would be all over this. It's a pity Barking Dog completely lost the source code for Cataclysm; it didn't have the impact of Homeworld's story but it was a robust and interesting multiplayer game.

Earlier this month it was announced at PAX that Blackbird Interactive have been greenlighted by Gearbox to release a game they were developing as a "spiritual successor" to Homeworld & 2, as Homeworld:Shipbreakers. No details as of yet apart from the game announcement here.
