To those who have seen this-
"The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed"
This seems to be the result of games (both MP,PBEM, Adventures/Epics) that have the "no cheating" option enabled. After 3 days on the phone with take2 games and them getting nowhere, Snaproll was able to figure it out
@Sirian
Would it be possible for you to email me a save of Adventure 3 with the "no cheating" option not enabled so I could at least play a shadow game?

The CFC GOTM staff are having a bigger issue with it and are actively investigating. There do appear to be legitimate "problems" with the game option, false alarms, which may be stemming from more than one bug/issue, actually. This is just one of those things you can't find without a lot of testing on various systems, and may even be a side effect of other problems (a dominoe falling because other problems trigger).
I don't have all the info yet, but the WHOLE PURPOSE of this feature is to prevent tampering with the file, so it's not like I can go in there and tamper with it by turning off the "No Cheating" option, or some other workaround.
I think some folks are simply stuck. ... I'm very sorry for that.
The best thing I can think of at the moment is to start a separate, independent saved game on the same settings, on a different map, and run "Adventure Three-A" for those (and ONLY those) who are locked out of playing the protected version. That is, you can play in one event or the other but not both.
Those of you having the problem... Would you me to do this?

I am another one who seems to be locked out of adv-3 and as this is the first one with a scoring system I would love to play it, even as a shadow.
If you have to make a separate game for us then I guess thats the way it has to be. I dont suppose there is any way to do it as the same map somehow? It would make for better stories etc if we can at least compare our games to the 'real' one instead of playing on a whole different map.
For record the only thing I have on my game is the patch..thats it...fresh install 2 days ago.
Were adventures 1 and 2 protected in the same way? Because they worked fine.
The only other thing I can offer is that I am one of the people who got the error message when installing the patch. Could that be a factor?

No.

Error message when installing the patch? That doesn't sound good. I'm not a tech support guy, though, nor in to the innards of how the code interfaces with different hardware, etc. (That's a nasty, tricky environment that gives even industry vets with baeucoup experience some fits.)
I hate to suggest to people to uninstall/reinstall. That may not help! All I can say is, I won't protect another game until I'm sure it won't botch the event. (The GOTM guys are more concerned about such things, so I'm sure they will try it out -- and we can simply wait until they reach a version with which they are happy and trouble-free, and then we can start using it again.)

Hi,
Ziggy Wrote:The only other thing I can offer is that I am one of the people who got the error message when installing the patch. Could that be a factor? No. I got an error message as well. I forgot what it actually said, I only remember that it didn't really explain what went wrong. But I just clicked "okay" and everything worked fine nonetheless, and Adventure 3 works for me.

I have fixed this problem or more accurately Ainwood has solved this problem. Ainwood over at civfanatics wrote this to me:
[quote: Ainwood]The best bet is to wait for the problem to be patched.
If you want to do it now, your best best is actually to convert your Hard Disk Drive from the FAT/32 file system to the NTFS one (assuming you have Windows XP).
See here for details ("Converting to NTFS Using Convert.exe")
Note: Whilst it should be safe to do this, I suggest that if you are going to try it, that you back-up your critical data first
After you've converted it, you shouldn't get the assets problem again (or if you do, a reinstall should fix it).
Good luck![quote: Ainwood]
This worked for, however I did not convert, I have two hard drives one a FAT32 and the other a NTFS, I just moved the game, but it worked. Good Luck to all who try this, but I would back up my files and make sure I had my recover discs too before I tried this.

Ooh, that could be handy - if we ask Sirian nicely he could tell Soren that's where the problem comes from (assuming they've not already noticed).
He may have ocean madness, but that's no excuse for ocean rudeness!
