Things I want to know

I am thinking of trying a variant on my own and wanted to know a few things before I started.

1) If you raze a holy city and also raze any city with that religion in it currently will that 'kill' a religion?

2) Are there diplo penalties for razing a holy city from other AIs who arent that religion? ie if i raze Spain's holy Buddist city of Madrid is Hindu Ghandi going to be pissed? Or would he actually approve?

3 ) Is there any way to get rid of a religion that is in one of your own cities? (besides razing it) Can you even raze/abandon one of your own cities?

4) If you have 'No state religion' and you also have the civic (I forget which one) that stops the spread of non-state religions...will any religions spread to you?

Thanks for any answers you are able to provide.

1) Yes

2) I believe you get a negative modifier for 'You razed a Holy City' with all AIs

3) In standard game: no and no .. there are mods that allow you to do this thou.

4) Teocracy prevents spreading of non state religions to cities where you already have the state religion... When you dont have a state religion, then any religion can spread to your cities I believe

@ number 2 ...drat how annoying/unrealistic...funny scenario, WW2 Russia invades Italy and razes the Vatican to the ground. Red China pipes up 'Oi!, what do you think you're doing?!' You would think they would be stoked not pissed lol

5) Ok is there any reliable way to ensure that NO religion will appear in your cities?

Have no open borders agreements and make sure your city isn't built on a coast, and don't found a religion.

I don't think Open Borders matter. I've seen religions spread to hated enemies. Your best bet is to rush to Theology, turn to Theocracy and never look back.

Well, without open borders they can't send missionaries.

Hey, sorry for the auto-smiley on the 3). I've changed the code for that one, so that we can have lists longer than two now. =)

True, but enemy religions still spread like wildfire to new (unreligious) towns. The only way you can avoid that is sending a missionary with each settler and converting your new towns the turn they're founded.

IIRC religion only spreads between cities connected to the trade network, so not building roads or cities on the coast might help. Make the game a lot harder, though...

Not really harder. No religious penalities and no production wasted towards religion.
