Shake off the dust. Diablo question.

It's been years since I've been here, and I have a techical question about running Diablo Classic. That's right Classic.

I've installed it on my Pentium 266 (blazing eh?) and loaded the 1.09 patch so I can play online. Problem is I get an error with the 1.09 patch telling me that there is an issue with my sound card. To be precise, its looking for
"C:\Src\Diablo\Source\SOUND.CPP:375"

Funny thing is, that file\directory doesn't exist.

Any suggestions?

P.S. Ya know. When you spend 3 days installing updates, you're bound to overlook one. Updated Directx and problem solved.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I did want to say hi and welcome back. smile

It's good to be back. I'm in the middle of a job change and moving from Phoenix to Des Moines and, as you can see, using an old laptop. I realized I never really finished Otrere's story and need to get back to it.

I couldn't find an answer at Blizzard, so I thought I'd check with the real tech support. wink .

It's an assertation error, I've run into alot of those messing around with D2. The only computer that file exists on is the Blizzard computer with the source code. (assuming they even have that anymore) So that doesen't refer to anything on your computer, it just lets you know that something concerning sound is messing up.

Never ran into that myself, only thing I can think of is to check out your sound card. Maybe do start menu->run... and then type "dxdiag", click on the directsound tab, run the tests. See what your audio hardware acceleration is set at.

If that don't help, maybe mention what kind of sound card you got, there may be special drivers you can download. If nothing else helps, maybe mention where exactly it crashes (in the patching process, immediately on startup, when you start a new game, etc.)

Really shooting in the dark here, just some things to try out, no silver bullets from me. frown

"Forget? How could I forget? I'm still hunting him down. I'll have his head soon enough."

Otrere

Heya Drasc <waves> been a long long time.

I've noticed the group has moved to/added Guild Wars.

Otrere's hunting on the b.net again, literally starting from scratch...hehe.

Talk about rusty.

1. Rakhir hasn't been around for a while. You could look at this post in the light of "hey, I am back" as much as "what have they done to Diablo?"

2. It is not as though we have massive traffic and need desperately to be tightly organized.

3. Rakhir: WB. smile

And 4. I had a general kind of question. not really a discussion of Diablo. Those will be in the right spot.

Besides, sometimes being wrong is the right way to get attention. wink

Good to be back.

Eh, is that some sort of high school philosophy? [Image: tongue.gif]

Good to see you, Rakhir.

How about them apples? They say they do not fall far from the tree, and that one can spoil the whole bunch. Well I say we may not all be rotten, but we are all spoiled.
