Ichabods keep out.

Someone on the internet drew the above portrait of me. An uncanny resemblance.

We used the following rules:

* PBEM format.
* Torusland map with no pre-placed improvements. Other than that default (note: "Balanced" strategic resources setting is default).
* Map size: Tiny.
* Map dimensions: 32 x 20 (same as a mirrorland duel)
* Prince difficulty.
* Quick speed.
* Options: no barbarians, unrestricted leaders, always war, no vassal states, no tribal villages, no random events.

House rules:
* No war elephants.
* Spies can't perform missions.
* "Wimpy units can't take the first aggressive action of the game."
(Wimpy units = scouts, warriors, workers, settlers, workboats.
Aggressive action = enter enemy culture, or enter an uncultured space containing an enemy unit.)

Leader/civ pick:

4: FIN
3: EXP, ORG, India, Inca
2: SPI, IND, CRE, Zulu, Egypt
1: PHI, Mali, All other Agriculture civs
0: IMP, CHA, AGG, PRO, All other civs

You get 5 points.

Ichabod picked first: Shaka of Zulu.
I picked second: De Gaulle of India.

Different from my other game, with 2metraninja, we are not on a mirrored map and not with mirrored civ/leader.

I get to go first.

My start is thus. Irritating to have just an AH resource as India.

I start by moving the warrior south, but I think this is an instinctive move and probably a mistake. It reveals 3 tiles, but there is no river in that direction - I am pretty sure I want to move SW onto the plains hill and my scout moves should be helping me choose between that and moving onto the northern plains hill. Instead of moving S, my warrior could have moved NW, uncovering 2 tiles in my BFC which I will lose if I move the settler SW.

Now where to move the settler? I want to move either S or W, planning to then move the other to end up on the plains hill.

My goal here is to discover what and where my second guaranteed food resource is. And by fog gazing, I actually know it's not S or W of the plains hill, because they are desert and riverside, and therefore flood plains. So my missing food resource is either revealable by moving the settler W, or it is one of the three northern tiles which I'll lose by moving onto the plains hill.

Found it!

Well, this is a pretty bad start, only two resources and they are both lame 4f ones that require AH. But at least I have a plains hill to settle on, and some river with FPs.

IMP/AGG zero points for a duel?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

On mirrorland, I'd definitely agree. They're not strong enough militarily to make up for the economic disadvantage. (Take it from the guy who chose Khublai Khan twice wink )
Erebus in the Balance - a FFH Modmod based around balancing and polishing FFH for streamlined competitive play.

Took the words out of my mouth. Monty of India, please.

We pretty much just grabbed a previously used point system and slapped a few civs with the best early UUs on it in place of naval civs. I don't think it matters that much that it's comlpetely balanced. But I'm curious to hear how you would value the various traits for a duel.

Btw, I made my choice like this:

1) I haven't played CHA yet, so I will pick that.
2) India is always super fun and I can spare the points.
3) I have 2 points lefts, I'm CHA so CRE is out, I'm already SPI in both my other games so no way. And I'm PHI and AGG in other games too, and I've been IMP a lot. So that leaves IND. As a bonus it's funny to pick that after my opponent chooses shaka of zulu.
