Lets see how well they do
[spoiler]Mountainclimbing Elephants: Rowain plays Carthage Old and New
|
I have the turn but won't have a chance to look at it till evening.
So lets look what Carthage has as specialities. 1) Prefers coastal starts and gets a free harbour in all coastal cities. Makes it easy to get city connection income going without spending time and money on roads. A Harbour also extends sea trade routes which makes it easier to reach profitable city-states or other civs 2) Once a Great General is earned my Units can walk over mountains (ending their turn their costs them 50 HP) which can lead to some surprise attacks. 3) Forest elephant as a Horseman replacement which have higher strength, slower movement, higher hammercost but don't need Horses. And they make all adjacent enemies afraid -giving them a combat penalty. 4) Quinquereme: naval melee Unit with higher strength than the usual Trireme.
Well this is your first Civ game here. I don't think the other players will consider your Diplomacy experience and even if they do you would come off as a conservative player which cannot hurt you (the only time you ever back-stabbed was in your first game but you were forced to because Austria was getting too strong). How much civ experience do you have and how do you think things will go? Will you keep the same style or be a bit more of a douche in a no-diplo game?
Hi MJW
I have no MP experience at all in Civ. My available time to play civ is far to little/chunky to play MP. I only joined here so that there is a game. I don't care very much about winning as long as I have some fun. That fun can mean stomping someone with elephants (no matter if that means somebody else wins) or paying for a wonder or two. I will count any result better than 4th place a win. BTW Isn't douche a rather unfriendly word?
Hey, Rowain, following with interest. I didn't remember about the TR boost that harbours give, so your ability is a bit better than I was expecting. Getting a coastal second city and researching for water TRs can be a really strong plan, I think, because you could get some pretty good food TRs going. So, building a granary in the Capital should be a priority too, I guess.
I guess I'll dedlurk, since you are getting a new map.
Hello Ichabod
I'm honoured to have the winner of a former game on board Pottery first and building a granary early are always good moves the rest will depend on map, terrain, neighbours etc etc. (if it is a classic Pangea the CS are likely inbound and disturbing peaceful expansion if it is Pangea plus many CS are on islands => good for Carthage.)
I said "a little bit" and I don't consider it that unfriendly. It's not nearly as bad as some other words. Your a good boy in diplo but that is a totally a different game and I'm wondering if you will stay the same. Because you don't care if you win or not I would guess your play style would change.
Just don't do what Ichabod did at the end because that would be too big of a fail and might cause a black hole. I never actually played a game of BNW, so I can't help much with the new features (I've seen TRs used on Sullla's report and that's it). But I can try to give some advice here and there. Hopefully you get a start with wheat, so the granary becomes an even better build. (November 11th, 2014, 10:32)MJW (ya that one) Wrote: I said "a little bit" and I don't consider it that unfriendly. Missing out on the Rationalism opener, after 20 turns of planning to achieve that, just because Pindicator converted my city in the interturn, when I could do nothing about it, also made me want to uninstall the game.
After some problems we are now underway
picture 2 plain wheat + river near the south pol. By the look of it yuris has not settled. Research set to pottery and started to build a scout (not monument). We are 4 players on a 6-player map so there is lot to explore.
Wow, what a great Capital! 3 wheat? That's huge. Also, an easy luxury.
You could have perhaps settled on the gems. That'd give you a 2/2/3 city tile, almost the same as working the gems all the time. Even so, the Capital is really good. I like the scout opening. Perhaps even a 2 scout opening can work, considering the 6 player map, like you've said. |
