I think I may have an interesting save that might work as a challenge. It's Impossible/Mrrshan/Large, opponents were Human/Silicoid/Meklar/Darlok/Klakon, and I drew a corner start with a fair bit of room to expand.
..however, as it turned out, after a couple early brush wars I was well down on territory, left with only eight planets, two of which I had to wrest from the opponents, with a runaway silicoid on the other side of the galaxy.
Eventually, things sorted out into a Darlok/Klakon/Human/Meklar alliance against the rocks, with me being completely unable to join in, due to being entirely blocked off by the wall of the alliance. I do have huge trade agreements with the other parties.
There seems to be the possibility for a diplo win, as terraforming +50 is about to come in, which will allow me to temporarily get #2 in population, and be voted the winner.. however, I'm wondering if a really skilled player can fight out of the corner and get more territory.
