HOW DO I TYPE IN RUSSIAN??? I want to try to do some reporting in russian ... for now I have to use google translate but I'd prefer to actually type it out myself and know what im doing! Thanks.
So I'm looking at mirrorland and a couple things ...
for ONE its leaps and bounds better than mirror/reflected/varied because its all temperate! (for the most part)
now, 2nd map had a bit more water than I was expecting, and I suppose its partially due to the nature of a Toroidal mirror. I'll have to tinker with the settings a bit more until I have what I think will give me good odds for a good map for both parties (rather than having us wishing we were lanun!)
So right now im trying 'waterways' and ill see what the other more watery ones look like too, but I might have to stick with 'lakes'
Well, Calabim are nerfed b/c moroi are still 60 hammers and can't use mithril, but mithril won't really be an issue. Luchuirp *might* be a decent option. I want to use the Hippus at least once ... but to use them more than once I'd have to make it to the top 3. Illians seem a decent choice. Grigori also seem like a decent optoin. I *would* choose Calabim, but since Decius has been nerfed ... (aka no more DOUBLE GOV MANOR PROD) Flauros might be the better choice. Honestly, *90 hammer Gov Manors was WAY WAY better than the current 120 hammer courthouses, but ofc for NON-ORG leaders, this can only be a boost. Ergo its a somewhat significant boost for Alexis and neo-Flauros (since Flauros used to be Organized).
Kuriotates, Hippus, Clan(?), Illians, Grigori ... who should be the 6th? Granted, Illians is still somewhat iffy.
Keelyn Balseraphs, Kandros of Khazad, Flauros of Calabim, Amelanchier of Ljosalphar, Volanna of Svartalphar,
Grigori, Hippus, Kuriotates, Illians, Khazad, Ljosalphar, Svartaphar, Calabim ... those are all strong choices imho. Lanun *might* be a good choice ... it depends. Luchuirp could be fun but meh ...
Grigori -> a one trick pony (or multi-trick, but still limited in utility and needs decent timing)
Hippus -> all around a good attacker, may or may not need perfect timing depending on the opponent
Kuriotates -> an excellent nation
Illians -> a one trick pony (but a bit more reliable than the grigori, if a bit more boring imho)
Ljos -> Strong Nation
Svart -> Strong Nation
Calabim -> Flexible and powerful
Balseraph -> An interesting choice, especially with the new Summoner trait w/ Keelyn could be fun.
Ultimately I think that Kuriotates/Svartalfar/Hippus/Balseraph will be good vs good players ...
while Grigori/Balseraph will be fun vs other players ... I'd really like to try out Grigori/Sidar vs a weaker player or new/rusty player ... but I'm not familiar enough with the players around here to be completely certain of the relevant skill levels. And my lack of participation in Realms Beyond FFH2 might make my skill a bit unknown to those here, or lack of skill HAHAHA
I don't have a lot of time to become obsessed about this so I'd rather make fun picks rather than *optimal* pics. Grigori, or trying to make the Grigori work, could be really fun to play. On the other hand, Amelanchier of the Ljosalphar would be really fun. Honestly I'm not sure that a good counterpick to Ljosalphar exists ... other than more ljosalphar. Except ... Yes, Keelyn is the counter to Ljosalfar. Svart would be more fun to play in Eitb v9 ... now Volanna is somewhat nerfed and Fawns are more expensive. Only slightly, but I think its a suggestion that even I made at one point, to make them 75 instead of 90 (+15 rather than +30). I feel as though Khazad, Ljosalfar, Kuriotates, Hippus, and Grigori would be excellent canvases for showing off what these nations can truly do. Haha, of course its been shown before ... at least some of them .... It looks like Kandros/Amelanchier/Tasunke are going to be my actual top 3, although I'd rather have Kuriotates on the right map ... a lot will depend on mapscript. And enemy civ picks Truthfully I want Amelanchier and Tasunke above all else, I need to play these!!! :D
here we are turn 1 ... I plan on exploring west initially, then circling around to the east, going north
Also of note, I plan on my second city to be 1 east of the incense, if possible. It will mean losing the river bonus though. 1S of that location would grant the river bonus, but lose the pig and hill. Should I consider going 1N instead? I might have far less immediately arable land in that case however, and the city might take too long to get up and running. Thoughts? As far as immediate arability goes, 1E of incense is equal to 1S, as 1 tile is farmable and 1 tile can have plantation. While 1N, even though its defensive bonus is attractive, loses any immediate farms within the first ring, which could be devastating to an early economy. Would anyone care to comment?
Tasunke vs Beeri (an interesting game from my perspective ... totally worth the Hippus choice on Blacksword imho, especially since its one of my first games. Also, I think I should try to use my best nations when I have the chance to counterpick ... rather than the reverse. But we will see ... Qgqqq picked a fairly strong civ vs me even though he knew not what I would pick. I wonder how many will pick Hippus during this tournament ... All of them??)
Qgqqq picks Rhoanna of Hippus vs me ... his other pick was Lanun, an interesting choice. Perhaps due to Falamar's traits.
My first choice was Amelanchier of the Ljos ... but i still feel that Rhoanna will have a slight edge given the map. Perhaps I could go Kandros, or Keelyn, Tebryn even? Or Averax the Cambion. Ultimately I began to lean towards Mahala as the strongest choice ... yet Volanna of the Svartalfar is a strong pick as well. Ultimately you just can't beat Hippus mobility within their OWN borders ... so in *some* ways Raider is less effective vs the Hippus ... so Mahala might well be out of the runnings. Amelanchier? Same situation. However ... we now need to look at defensive viability. Elohim? Bah. Kandros? Maybe ... but Volanna ... something about her is screaming PICK ME, PICK ME!!! as a decent *defensive* counter vs Rhoanna. Vs Tasunke ... its a bit trickier who I'd go with, possibly Kandros in all honesty ahahaha .... but regardless Volanna seems like a solid pick vs Hippus ... but I do realize HAs have recently been buffed vs Recon. Well ... Svart DO have HAs of their own :}
*I would consider choosing one of the other Ljos leaders for vs Rhoanna, for Creative or Expansionist respectively, but ultimately they would only be half-leaders in my eyes, as far as a duel map is concerned. Their world spell is certainly quite strong ... but to be honest both it and Sanctuary just don't seem strong enough to justify the civ based on those merits alone. It must also have decent traits and units to complement a proper defensive arsenal. I think a mix of hunters and warriors should do nicely.
my preference for the final 3 matches will probably be Amelanchier vs Mardoc, show off what Grigori can do vs Old Lion, and Kuriotates vs Kragroth... so now I must make a pick vs Greylion ... and not a counterpick but an initial pick ... arg!
So grey fox has decided on inland oceans medium sea level compact enforced. I think this would be a good opportunity to choose Lanun. However I am rather torn between Hanah and Falamar. Ellimist has proven that raider trait is relevant even in a coastal invasion .. However it obviously has it's limits when it comes to naval combat as the trait only affects roads (which are always on land).
So raiders is clearly a weak pick at face value, however it could certainly come in handy.
However, my instinct is that Falamar may be the stronger economic choice, and for this particular map, the stronger choice in general.
