[SPOILERS] DTG's Omnipotence Embodiment

This is my thread. hammer

The title, and all subsequent city names, will be taken from random pages of the superpower Wiki. Some names are long. Where necessary, I'll abbreviate these in the game and post the full version + abilities in this thread. cool

The initial roll (3rd if I am being totally honest) landed on Omnipotence Embodiment:

Quote:Capabilities

With this power the user becomes their own omnipotence, the supreme being and the source of everything. The user of this ability is the true master and wielder of any and every other power that is deemed omnipotent.

Being Omnipotence incarnate, the user is fully devoid of any potential weakness : the power cannot be cut off or stolen, nor can its use be disturbed, backfired or turned against the user.

The user is Sublime with this power becomes great, immense, perfect, magnificent and transcendent.

This seemed a fairly accurate account of my character and power both in and outside of Civ, and a fitting way to begin.

Later, when we finally determine the game settings, I might even write something about the start/my plans/progress/anticipated victory/inevitable defeat. wink

Dedlurker checking in.

First of all, welcome to RB, it's always nice for new blood to flow in.

Looks like we are first pick! I'm not sure what you have in mind for picks, but I would recommend taking Darius here. Darius is by far the best leader with these settings in my opinion and I think he should be banned in a BTS game.

As for civs I would take a Agriculture/Wheel civ, I rank them at:

Egypt>Sumeria>France>Ottoman>Babylon

If we have a Fishing start, then Rome is clearly best option.

Let me know what you think. smile

And welcome to the thread. Thanks for offering to dedlurk. thumbsup

I figure we can wait until tomorrow before we think too much about the picks. I assume we'll want at least one of the Expansive, Financial, and Creative trio, and after that we might consider the potential synergy with the likely 3rd/4th/5th pick civs. Do you know if we will be told the map size, wrap, and land % before we pick?

Darius is an economic powerhouse, for sure. The main thing I dislike about him as a leader is that, at least in SP, there are more interesting combos out there. Both traits are very passive to play.

Also, since we are in the first team slot, will we win any ties for freebies? If, e.g., two players found a religion or build the same wonder on the same turn, would the first team get it, or is the winner determined by a coin-flip?

In PBEM games, production occurs at the end of your turn. So if you have 1t remaining on T45 and so does the next player in turn order behind you, you'll build he wonder when you end turn and it won't be available for the next player to complete.

Here's your capital. Stuff in the fog might change, but capital stays the same. Enjoy!

If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

Thanks, that's good to know.

I also realize now that, although I have the first leader/civ pick, the order of play will probably be randomized again...

Cheers. I haven't played a Torusland map before, but the first Google hit from Realms Beyond contains a detailed account of why you dislike the script. wink

Anyway, I've downloaded Torusland and rolled a few starts. After thinking about it a bit, I can't see a good reason to pick anyone other than Mehmed. Of the other possible candidates, I worry that Darius will be too slow to expand, that Suryavarman will fall behind economically, and that Isabella is too reliant upon the Oracle or Pyramids to stay competitive.

I also like the fact that Organized makes the Fishing-tech civilizations viable, which increases our options dramatically when we get to pick again.

Hard to go wrong with him; I somehow suspect your dedlurker likes him too...

Commodore I wonder how you were able to come to that conclusion? mischief

Mehmed should be a fine pick. Unfortunately Expansive won't save us any turns on the worker if we go worker first because of that forested deer, but you can't really complain about a 10 turn worker. (this is normal speed right?)

Lots of options for the start, not sure whether workboat or worker first is better without simming it out. Are you planning to build a sandbox?

It is normal speed. I'll build a sandbox, although I'm not sure how long I'll keep it going.

A Workboat opening looks strong to me. 7 turns of +3FPT and +3HPT from the unimproved Deers takes the cap to size 2 with 24F / 24H. We can then work the Plains Forest Hill with the second citizen to finish the WB. After that, we whip the first Worker and grow back on Warriors. Hopefully this is safe.

I'll sleep on it, and post the leader choice tomorrow if I don't feel too panicked about skipping the Financial leaders.

First pick. Only player not to take a Financial leader. smoke

Alhazard did very well from the snake; Khan's Ragnar/Zulu combo is... confident. I wonder if he is a smurf or has played MP elsewhere (I don't mind either way, but Aggressive Impi are quite a statement).

Anyway, a question: is it a stupid idea to build a Settler at size 2?

I've been thinking about doing something like:
  • WB (grow to and complete @ size 2) ---> Worker (whip) ---> Warrior ---> Settler (whip at 70H) ---> Granary (OF + chop)

This would mean postponing Hunting to beeline Bronze Working and then Pottery. The Worker would Mine the PH, which only offers 1 less yield than the Deer while building a Settler. And I think that, to start out, 1C > 1H for my leader and this start.

I'm not sure if this is too risky, though.
