Hello, I'll be your friendly helping muffin. I haven't read the picking method or anything. What thoughts do you have? I'm not even sure what changes happen on ren.

Hi, is it alright if I tag along as well? Not sure how much I'll be able to contribute, but I've developed a serious itch for MP civ while waiting for PBEM74B to finish smile

Sure it will be. Have a think what you want to do in the game and with the start especially. Look over 33 as I think a lot of the trait considerations (especially the post game analysis) is worthwhile. There is another era to trudge through so maybe a bit more early commerce emphasis is important, although all the first to bonuses will be taken early by the philo guys really. Realistically lib will fall to someone who can crank out a couple of GScis, and probably then should take econ for the merchant. Or taj will go to the first to get nationalism as a rep GE will be easy to get early. See Dreylin in 33 for power philo play. Or you can crank out expansion, or try to war early. All are viable, you need to choose the route that you think is best suited to you. Also note that the expansion strat can be done by many, whereas if you loose the race for wonders/first to bonuses, you might start to struggle.

So who will be your Top Piss Picks?

We're pretty far down on the snake pick, so I'd imagine the stronger combinations among SPI/IMP/FIN/PHI to be taken, or maybe some civs like Byzantines/France? I agree that the key to the start will be deciding whether or not to chase wonders/first-to bonuses using Great Engineers/Scientists, which given the strength of Drey4E's PB33 opening have to be on everyone's minds. I'm especially curious how many PHI leaders are contested, it's similar to Ancient start IND in terms of monopoly value.

A lot also depends on the map shape and how lush it will be, but my personal preference would be to lean towards an early aggressive play, if possible. Let the others agonize over micro speadsheets, figuring out how they want to build their workers and wonders smile hammer

Haha combat done right is more micro intensive this early! I don't want to push Nicolae one way or the other, so I'll let him make his mind up on the route to go. If we were gonna go early combat. I would say France can crank out the best offensive force at this stage. A mixture of knights and musketeers are gonna be better at holding gains IMO than phracts which would see them whip pikes into play.

It seems there is a 10% discount on everything at this point, which is important too.

Compared to 33 also I believe the epics are also available - it is important to check early and plan the NWs too. I got very little use out of them to my detriment.

Yep, the Epics are both available, and Moai is the only unavailable National Wonder.

You still need to generate a 10xp unit for Hepic, so I suppose Nepic is more accessible.

I do agree that France would be great for pissing in people's shoes. Even if I don't actually kill anyone with them, I can still bottle them up and snatch up their best land. However, that would be the third time I'd have played France.

SPI would also be fun to play with, but again, I have a habit of picking SPI (and not utilising it properly). Well, this time I'm guaranteed a religion as well as a pile of civics to play with.
