Science light on or off?

With the unofficial 1.4m patch we get the little red light indicator that tells us, if we are currently putting in more RP in a science field than what we get bonus on. But since you cant control it down to an exact amount you will usually end up with a bit below ( unlit. but next up makes it lit) or a bit above (first tick that makes it lit)

Which of the states do you tend to prefer. why ? and if you change between them for some reason, what is that reason?
Assuming everyone use the seed and trickle method for maximizing Science bonus

Me:
I usually take it to first tick of lit when it doing basic researcher. and once i see percentages i put it on the last unlit tic

Similar method here. It just depends on whether I want to lean on research just a bit more or less. Going slightly under means maximum efficiency of production devoted to research--all research is being tripled, although some tripling potential is being wasted--while going slightly over means maximum efficiency of a different sort--all of the tripling potential is being used, albeit with a little extra on top that isn't getting the benefit of the interest tripling.

In the very early game when I am researching only 1 or 2 techs (usually planetology and propulsion), I can usually use my 2nd planet to finely adjust my overall research to narrow it down to the exact RP. As the game goes on, it matters less and less, and I become less perfectionist about it.

People complain that this research model requires too much micromanagement, and I agree as it stands, but there would be some easy fixes for it without drastically changing it like Remnants of the Precursors is by making the bonus contigent on equal spending on all fields rather than interest.

With the current setup, it would make a big difference to have a "%" shortcut. When pressed, the highest-up research bar on the tech screen that is not locked would automatically go just 1 tick under or over the limit, taking from or adding to the lowest other research bar that is not locked. Then you could lock that bar, and do the next thing with the next bar that you wanted to adjust. For bars that you didn't want to adjust, you would lock them beforehand. If you want to preferentially top-off some research bars over others in an order not necessarily the same as the top-to-bottom order that they have on the screen, you could just lock the bars at first that are lower on your order of preference, and then unlock them after locking the most preferred research bars after adjusting them with the shortcut.

just did some basic testing
and mostly putting this here for self notes next time i forget it

Once the red lights ticks on you are at a least 1pts  above the max bonus
exactly on max bonus the light is still off

Really only important in the very start of the game

How about clicking on the LED instead? Implemented that in 1oom (v0.9-26); it took 30 minutes. Thanks for the idea!
