Does the AI pursue Culture wins?

I asked this question at CFC and got no real definitive answer. If i turned off all victories save one (i.e., you could only win via culture), would the AI's in turn play for this victory type??

No, the AI does not pursue cultural wins.

It -is- capable of battling over disputed territory using culture, though, including using Artist specialists in border cities and using Great Artists as culture bombs in useful locations. So it's not culture that it can't handle, but cultural victory.

I can't tell you how sad this makes me considering the (admittedly few) games that I've lost to an AI player achieving 3 legendary cities! In retrospect, most of these losses have come from games I've played on the Ring map. Coincidence? I think not!

So what happened? The AI accidentally won a culture victory?

That's gotta be incredibly frustrating!

Frustrating doesn't even begin to describe the last time this happened. I was playing a Monarch game on the Ring map and was notified of my loss just as my civ was taking the can out of the pantry and rummaging through the drawer for the can opener. I don't think I was able to build a single ancient wonder and my armies just couldn't reach the far side of the Ring fast enough.

I can't be the only person in this forum to have a cultural loss to the AI. Can I? !

Nope, I've never had the AI come close, although I've also never played the ring map.

I did have Mansa launch in 1844 on me once though (pre-patch)
