XCOM 2 - Ironman Again

Commander Difficulty, Ironman, take two.

Same deal as last time. I will play the turns and report. You can lurk or help me out.

If you want to be a Soldier in the game let me know. I will start with those who asked in the last thread but didn't make the cut.

Unused names (for my own benefit): AdrienIer, Old Harry, Dreylin, Sareln, Krill, sunrise089

Will we make it past 10 missions this time?

Will you loop back through those who were soldiers in the previous game as well if you run out of new people signing up? Because I would like another shot at glory.
Surprise! Turns out I'm a girl!

Once I run out of unused names from the last thread then I'll use new ones from this one. And yeah you can be a soldier again even if you were in the last campaign.

Mission 1: Operation Gatecrasher

Here we go. As suspected the first mission is always the same.
Also I lied in the first post, I changed some settings: I disabled the DLC story missions (but all the new items and such will still be active).

We start very close to the objective. There's a nice building overlooking the bomb site, I will head over there first.

Found the first pod. They're right by the bomb site. Excellent.

Everyone gathered on the roof. We'll attack next turn.

Let's get even higher.

When's the last time you saw a 85% chance to hit? Not in our previous campaign that's for sure.
I set everyone else to overwatch and Hugo took the first shot.

And we're back to familiar territory.

We did hit all three overwatches though, and didn't even roll low on damage!

That's three promos in the bank. We'll make sure to get our big misser a promo too. There should be more enemies.

I advanced with three units and left one up on the roof. There is no time limit so I'm doing blue moves only.

A pod patrolled into us. We got one overwatch off but it missed.

Two at the back had good cover. Let's kill the one who doesn't, and then get ourselves into full cover.

We threw a nade at the guy and destroyed his cover. Rolled low on damage but that's good, we don't want to blow up item drops.

She couldn't reach any of the good cover spots, but half cover over there is fine because it's too far for the other enemies to fire at her unless they abandon their good cover.
Unfortunately she missed her 66% shot.

Well we gave the kill to Hugo and got our fourth promo. Now though I'll only have one chance to kill one of the harder targets.

With our last guy I threw a nade at the Trooper for a 50-50 chance to kill it. We rolled low.

We paid the price immediately. He got marked by the Officer and then shot by the Trooper.

He only took 3 damage, but then panicked and ran out of cover to take a return shot at the Trooper, which missed.

We managed to kill it on first try. But we're still in trouble.. The Officer is hard to kill and we have a guy panicking out of cover.

We moved to half-cover, partly to reach with the nade, partly to draw fire on a healthy unit rather than the 1 HP one.
With our last functioning rookie I was out of good options and took a 28% shot on the Officer, which missed.
I figured overwatching wouldn't help as the Officer could mow down our panicked guy without moving. I might have been wrong about that, now that I look at the LoS again he might not have had a shot?

Instead of firing he had a better option: He went around the statue and fragged us. It killed the panicked soldier.

I wanted to be sure to kill it this turn to prevent any more casualties. First I threw a nade that had a 50% chance to kill it. It didn't.

Next I had a 74% chance to kill it. Nope, missed.

Finally I said fuck it and walked right in front of it for a 82% chance to kill it. Well..

Never a doubt in my mind. shades

Statue went boom and we won a mission. It's been a while.

We missed out on a Specialist but losses are expected when you send out 4 rookies.

One of the Troopers dropped some amazing loot for us. Misses deal damage?! It's a match made in heaven.
