RB Civ6 Epic 3: Rome Versus The Barbarians - CLOSING DAY

Epic Three: Rome Versus The Barbarians

Sponsor: Sullla
Opening Date: Friday, April 28
Duration: Five Weeks

Map Script: Inland Sea
Game Speed: Normal
Difficulty: Deity eek
Civilization & Leader: Trajan of Rome
World Size: Small
Opponents: Four
City States: Six (standard number is nine)
Rules: Standard
Victory: Any
Version: Fourth Patch (including Aztecs)

We return to one of our classic Epic scenarios from Civ3 and Civ4, playing as Rome on Deity difficulty. You are up against a smaller than normal assortment of AI opponents, leaving vast tracts of land open for barbarian spawns. This is a bleak world of cold, arid terrain with few hills and scarce resources. You are tasked with leading Rome to build an empire and defend civilization from the depradations of the barbarians. Good luck - you'll need it. [Image: biggrin.gif]

Custom Scoring:

None. This is going to be a rough ride. Play it out, no retirements, no matter how bleak things may appear. Where there is life, there is hope. Scratch, claw, and hang on to the last man. Give it your best shot and see what happens.

Closing Date: Monday, June 5. Game results must be posted within 48 hours of the game's closing date. Note that this is an official Epics event, which means NO SPOILERS about your game while playing. Do not post information about your game while it is in play, or afterwards until the finish date. The time to post reports will be on the closing day, where everyone will share the results of their individual games. The Epics are Single Player events, and we take the no spoilers rule seriously. Good luck!

It says game speed : normal, and this is epic 3 - i'm kinda confused, aren't epics played at epic speed. Just want to clear this up, i want to try this one out, civ kinda died in my heart, maybe this one will light the fuse again..

"Epics" are simply the name we use for the games; the name dates back to Civ3 before there were any game speeds at all. We've been playing all of our events on Normal speed so far. smile

And how is it different from an Adventure? Is this about the difficulty?

Historically, for Epics on RB, you would post absolutely no spoilers at any time until reporting day. (Just optionally e.g. "Gonna give this one a try" and later "Game complete" here in the sign-up thread.) Then everyone who participated posts a full report ~at once on closing day.

The distinction for Adventures has varied, but the way they're being handled for civ6, on a trial basis, is that Adventures can be reported as you play in separate spoiler threads even before reporting day (as if they were PBeM games).

Epics like this one are reported in the old-school Epic format, meaning no spoiler threads until June 5th, after finishing the game.

This was my favourite Civ4 adventure (even though I got to it a couple of years late) so I'll definitely have a go at it. I'm much more likely to finish and report if we're allowed to use one of the UI mods though - CQUI is the one I've tried and quite liked (if anyone has a better recommendation I'm all ears) - is that okay?

Oh, and I ported the original Rome vs the Barbarians civ4 save to be a BTS one - if anyone hasn't played it I thoroughly recommend it. Attached.

My word is certainly not official, but historically UI mods have not been allowed for RB events.  AFAIK that is still the case for civ6 (despite the well known issues in its UI, argument has been the line between "fixing obvious/silly shortcomings in the current vanilla UI" and "making it easier to see things without having to click through 10 screens each turn"  vs "mod that grants 'unfair' advantage to users" is hard to pin down)
