I'll repay the favor here if you like, although my knowledge of CIV IV is quite rusty.

I will mainly be able to double check you for sanity and give more general advice.
First I need to reinstall CIV IV.

Oh sure ! It's always good to have feedback. And it'll force me to update properly, unlike my PBEM 74D game.

To throw the rust away, Frederick (Phi/Org) of India (Fast workers/useless UB/mysticism/mining) is objectively the best combo here economically. Then come Frederick of HRE and Frederick of Ottomans. In terms of leaders the others are all ok, but not splendid. Possibly Justinian (spiritual/imperialist) is second best but I'm playing spiritual (with Byzantium) already in 74D so I'd like to try something else.

If I understand correctly we're going to get an island map, which boosts Industrial leaders (we'll all want to get triremes and the colossus, and therefore unlock metal casting : we'll be building early forges). But if more than two people take Ind then it becomes worse as a trait, due to not having a competitive advantage on wonders.

Fishing is going to be a major tech, which makes India worse. I'll think about it

Is there any mod or patch I should be aware of when reading into CIV 4?

You should be on the last patch (3.19 I think). We're playing this without RtR mod, so no mod needed.

Thanks I assume random events are disabled but everything else which came with BtS is enabled (corporations and espionage, switched leader traits for Ceasar, couple more techs and wonders). Is there anything else I should read into?
