[NO PLAYERS] PBEM5 Map Making & Lurkers

I found a map that I think will work. I had to move all the starting locations since they were originally all clustered together. Screenshots coming in a following post or two. This map started with a narrow 2 tile strait in the northeast connecting the inner sea to the outer ocean. I filled that in to complete the circle. Other than that the only edits I made was to add in some additional strategic resources and a few edits to the starting locations.

Here is a big-picture look:

RB is extremely slow right now. I'm unable to upload any photos right now, and the full "post reply" is barely working. I'm going to try uploading the starting position photos another way.

Tried using the Full Edit to delete that 2nd attachment above which I selected by mistake, but the page wouldn't load. Trying Dropbox for the starting screenshot. All player starting locations are in RED and all city state starting locations are in PINK.

Just looking at the strategic resources...

IRON:
Starts 1-4 have a source clearly in their territory.
Start 5 has two sources that are clearly theirs, but both are also likely to be taken by city-states. They also have a third in a potential contested zone with Start 1.

HORSE:
All starts have a source clearly in their territory.

NITER:
Starts 1 and 2 have to stretch for niter, Start 3 has a single source that might end up contested depending on how the early settling shakes out, and 4 and 5 are almost guaranteed some.

COAL:
Starts 1-4 have it; Start 5's only source might be taken by a city-state. This is late enough that it's probably not a big ask to conquer, though. I also think it's only used by naval units.

OIL:
Starts 1 and 5 have it near their cores, starts 3 and 4 have it in unappealing hinterlands that are still probably "theirs", and start 2 doesn't seem to have a nearby source. A very late resource, I don't think we know how important it is to late-game warfare. Could end up being either a nonissue or a source of bitter acrimony.

ALUMINUM:
Starts 2 and 5 definitely have it. Start 3 gets some when they settle Piopiotahi. Starts 1 and 4 seem not to have good access. Even later than Oil, same issue applies.

URANIUM:
Everyone has a source very close to their capital.

In the interest of giving players something to think about, I created a possible list of civs among which players can choose. I arbitrarily eliminated Spain, France, and Gorgo, then asked Random.org to randomize the order and got:

Player A: Azteca, Arabia, Kongo
Player B: Rome, England, Egypt
Player C: Japan, Germany, Greece (Gorgo)
Player D: Brazil, China, India
Player E: United States, Norway, Russia

Being random, this isn't a balanced set. If it's usable anyway, I (or someone who beats me to it) can randomize who gets which set and post them in everyone's threads, but I don't know enough about Civ6 to be sure this set won't handicap one of the players compared to the others, particularlt on this map, so I figured I'd post it here for comment first.

That list looks fine to me.

For some bizarre reason I can’t access Realms Beyond forums from my WiFi connection either on my laptop or phone, but if I turn off WiFi on my phone I can get online fine using phone data

'kay; I'll post the list and my methodology in the organizing thread then.

Mmmmm, actually not. I just double-checked the organizing thread, and I think I'd be jumping the gun. Alhambram suggested the players choose three civs to ban, Pindicator suggested leaving that to us lurkers, and no one else has weighed in yet. So I'll leave this here for now but wait for the players to decide for sure how they want to pick (and e.g. whether to ban Rome) before I post it in the organizing thread:

Alhambram: Azteca, Arabia, Kongo
Japper: Rome, England, Egypt
Krill: Japan, Germany, Greece (Gorgo)
CFCJesterFool: Brazil, China, India
Pindicator: United States, Norway, Russia

@Quagma Blast, thanks for double checking the strategics! I sprinkled a few more in to give better access.

I'm going to let them know the map is ready whenever they decide on the civs. In the mean time, if anybody else has any further comments on the map there is still time to make changes.

I love the look of the map.

The city state distribution is pretty good, but one of the western civs could end up with only one while one of the eastern civs will get three (possibly four). You could move the mid-western CS NW to the coast to make it more likely NW civ gets it and move the centre-southern CS SW to be nearer to the SW civ.

Those lists of civs look good to me Ref. I'll bet Alhambram takes Azteca, Japper takes Rome, Krill takes Germany, CFCJesterFool takes China and Pindicator takes Russia... Will Pindi be allowed to get to Cossacks?
