Favorite Civic

Just a short question:

What is the influence of this 'Favorite Civic' of a civilization? And does anyone know any uses for it, to use it in certain situations?

Or doesn't it really have a big effect anyway?

Thanks,

If you are in another civ's favourite civic, it provides "You have chosen your civics wisely" happiness to that leader. If you aren't, they will periodically ask you to change to that civic (as far as I know, that's the only civic they will ever ask you to change to). As for usefulness, my buest guess would be that it's mainly useful for boosting relations when going for a diplo win.

It's also the civic they'll always run and will never switch out of, unless forced by the UN.
For example Saladin will always run Theo and thus can't be converted post-theology, Tokugawa will always run Merchantalism and will thus be a worthless trade partner post-banking (now that merchantalism blocks trade both ways).

Here's one neat thing I noticed when perusing the XML files: you know how Isabella really cares about religion, how Catherine is an extortionist extraordinaire, how Mansa Musa is dying to trade tech even if you're at negative relations and his tech is at monopoly, and how Tokugawa is insanely isolationist (despite the Civiliopedia entry saying he was far from it? huh )?

Mao takes his love of State Property to that same extreme. He doesn't seem to show up a lot as an opponent in random games, and State Property isn't an option until fairly late in the game, but oh boy does he WANT you to switch to State Property. He'll ask frequently, and has an extreme reaction on your choice to switch or not; he takes his favorite civic more seriously than anyone else, except maybe for Tokugawa. Mao also is much more enthusiastic about building workshops and watermills to support his civic habit. (Mao's other trait that sets him apart is that he cares about religion the least of the AI's.)
