My Mystic X has -6 spell save from items and 120 mp. This results in over-the-top drain life sprees. One of which is now resulting in consistent crash of the game. Maybe it's beyond 7 "rows" of health icons that crashes the game? I have 102 health, which is still fine, but draining another 12 seems to crash it. Otherwise killing that unit seems fine.

Units stats, including health, are stored as a signed byte value, so any of them going above 127 will likely cause a problem. This probably isn't related to the 5.14 update of the display procedure which works with word values.
I don't think there is a fix for this - don't go over 127 health per figure and it should work fine. Fortunately 127 is unreachable on all other unit stats so health is the only risk.

Maybe I should add a check to lifegain to disallow it if the total is already too high.
