I just found some fun videos: British Museum curator Irving Finkel talks about deciphering the rules for the oldest known board game and plays it for International Tabletop Day 2017. It's similar to backgammon, apparently.

Makes sense it'd be a backgammon-like, those games were played throughout the Mediterranian, both the Greeks and Romans played something similar. You saw them in courts everywhere before Chaturanga (proto-Chess) replaced it in the Medieval Era.
