As the title implies, they contacted me.
They have the ability to include the 1.51 unofficial patch as an optional addon in the official game being sold on GoG. Personally, I like that idea as the patch is free anyway and then it could reach more people. We should probably try to reach kyrub and ask for his permission though? His insecticide changes are also in the patch.
We haven't talked about their plans for the new game yet, it was mostly me answering questions about the current state of the old MoM and its mods.

They don't have the source code, neither does Atari, so while legally they own it, it seems to be lost. They are looking for someone who has it but if such a person existed, we'd probably know about that by now...

I would love to see your 1.51 patch available on GoG and other modern game distribution systems. In my opinion, it (and Insecticide before it) are essential upgrades that improve the game without changing anything significant about the original.

I agree it would be nice (and probably a legal requirement) to get kyrub's approval as well.

I'm optimistic about Slitherine and the future if they're talking to you about the patch. I hope they succeed in finding the source code!

also posted a link to this on Drake178's wiki talkpage because has has contributed a lot to the patch recently. So we'll need his permission too.
Edit : sent a PM to kyrub, that's pretty much the only thing I can do to try to contact him. Let's hope he notices.
Drake178 agreed to the idea.

Oh wow this is great news. I'm so happy they contacted you. When I first joined up at their forum and posted on their announcement thread I gave them links to your project and other useful places but hell they probably already knew about you anyway haha. They're talking to the right guy!

I'm currently posting the big wishlist thread over on their forum (in General chat as they don't have a dedicated MoM forum yet) with all the bits I've found here and there and all the useful responses from the wishlist threads.

Why don't they just register and engage directly? Or create a subforum on https://www.slitherine.com/forum/ for the project? Very weird to have a intermediary when they have so many avenues for direct communication.

It may be an issue of time. Dealing with more public communication takes time, and also needs to be carefully vetted to make sure it does not cause legal or other problems. Communicating through a limited channel keeps things under control and centralized, making it easier to avoid potential problems, and keeps the dev team focused on development.
