He is talking about the organized religion civic. It gives a +25% production bonus for buildings in cities with your state religion. But you have to have a state religion to get the bonus, so that's why he wanted to found one.

Yes, I was referring to the +25% production bonus. I know of the things you mean, and someone in my SGOTM team tried to tech me about them (it's to do with binary science) but I've forgotten them now. I wouldn't worry about them if I were you - chosing the correct tech to research in the first place is far more important than a few gold pieces.

One thing I forgot to mention in my report was that my first 2 GPs were both merchants, and I merged them both into my capital. This was really useful for me, as the gold and representation research bonuses were very noticable. And the +2 food too smile. I got a scientist for an academy, but was never able to get a priest for a shrine. In hindsight, I didn't want a priest as on a dual map the shrine gold would have been negligible and I would have been better off merging him/her.
