HTPC Budget build

Cool. I don't really think that for what I'll be doing that the graphics abilities would be a limiting factor, but if you have a CPU / MoBo combination that is cheaper, I'm definitely open.

What kind of features do you need on the motherboard? USB 3.0? I don't think you need SATA III unless you plan to get an SSD later, and I really don't see a good reason for that.

Anyway I looked at AMD CPUs and if you wanted to get one with roughly the same processing power (slightly better actually) it's actually more expensive than the Celeron you've picked. Surprising. I don't really have a good gauge of how much graphics power you need for your HTPC setup, so I can't really recommend the switch after all.

I don't really know what kind of features. From what I've read, since I'm not really gaming much, I don't really need a whole lot of processing power

I'll try to weigh in more, but two quick thoughts:

1) There are few greater SSD evangelists other than me, but for performance purposes one probably isn't needed in a HTPC. They do however run cooler and quieter, which could matter in some applications.

2) If you're considering storage outside the PC then I don't really understand getting an HTPC in the first place. I admit I'm not the target audience, but in a world of <$99 digital media receivers (not to mention cheap DVI->HDMI cables) if you're already connecting from your TV to somewhere else the HTPC itself may not be needed anywhere near the TV.

The Celerons are really good but so is not having a dedicated card. The AMD chips have better playback due to the better graphical capability.
