I think opening worker-first would have been much faster for you... I'd only wager wb first in base BTS being faster than a grassland pig if I had an adjacent fish and a 3h tile to work for it, and even then I'd want to sim it out first - the pig is probably still faster.
Thanks! I really did spend a lot of time trying to decide which would be better, and I think you're probably right, but since this is just for fun I wasn't going to dedicate the time to simming it out. So I took a shot in the dark. I produced more commerce than I would have going worker first no matter what, so food-wise it was probably less optimal, but it did give us a beaker-boost over the pigs.

I think I might have gone worker first.

I think the non-simmed solution for me in that city was: worker, warrior, worker, chop settler, warrior (stop), WB, warrior (finish), WB, settler, worker through T50. Although the BFC is the same the rest of the tiles are different so it isn't strictly apples to apples. But I think the point (which Jojo agreed with) is that WB first isn't as fast as pigs first if you have the tech to improve the pigs. BTS vs. RtR may have made a difference in your choices.

Yeah so you guys didn't get exactly what you asked for in terms of map design, sorry about that. I can talk more about it later when you guys have explored more. I hope it plays out fun though. If nothing else it's...different. Tundra and peaks. Yay.

It is not what we expected, but that's not a bad thing. It's definitely been more interesting than what we expected. I don't think either of us is unhappy with it in general, though we did have a lot of WTF moments as we explored our area. Cal definitely got the more bizarre part of our land mass, so I'm sure he'll have some interesting things to say about it.
Sorry for the slowness, Cal hasn't been feeling well so he has neither been able to post his view of our session nor play another one as yet. Hopefully soon!

I'm being horribly slow with posting my report, so we have not continued yet as I should make that report. Sadly I haven't had the time yet after I finally got over the stomach flu, or whatever it was, a few days ago. Bear with me!

Okay, so I'm really having difficulties coming up with something substantial reportwise.
Highlights are:
* I'd like xenu to die a slow, painful death for his liberal use of tundra tiles near my start
* I have an excess of tundra pigs (they are actually reindeer who have mutated)
* My Creative trait will cause some difficulties with my borders with Grimace, as we cannot work each other's cultured tiles
Screens in no particular order
Some other random thoughts
* Rillanon is going to be a commerce powerhouse - I really like my capital
* Yabon is a necessary evil that won't see much growth. But I needed the copper, and I wanted it to be coastal, with the seafood in the BFC
* I am #1 on GNP. Surprise...
* Bas-Tyra is another nice city - not as nice as Rillanon, but it definitely can pull it's weight. With 3 plains hills, it should be decent for hammers too.
* City Dot Z isn't all that nice of a city spot, but it sure has resources for it. And stone! Which comes in handy for City Dot Y
* City Dot Y is an obvious site for a Moai city, and with the stone from City Dot Z I even get the discount
Further random thoughts
* I was surprised by the map connecting us to the AIs, as we asked Xenu for a continents-style map with teams on different continents. In retrospect though that would probably have been far too easy, so I'm glad he didn't listen to us, even if it means all this god damn tundra.
* With my avenues of expansion limited a bit by my Creative trait, I see little other option than making life difficult for the Greek/Incan team in my south-west. That should be interesting...
* Popcorn.

Looks like Z should be +11 food at size five. Who cares about the other tiles early on, that's a useful whip-hammer city. Or globe draft camp later. Or grow tall and work a lot of marginal tundra watermills--can those be built? I don't know that I've tried before. . Likewise your other ice cube city has a lot of food and you're FIN. That should be a good city all the way through the mid game, ice or not. :-/
I don't think you have to worry about your culture crushing Grimace's cities. You won't steal tiles from his cities' BFCs unless you build a city of your own overlapping the BFC if I'm remembering that one right. Been a long time since I played a team game where I can recall that coming into play. Anyway, if it got to be a problem you could gift the city to Grimace to make the borders fit better, or vice versa.
Why isn't Grimace exploring? :P. Looking forward to the next set of turns and the report. If only to see what you guys do to this map I sculpted out of the ice.
