Idea to speed up PBEM games

Yeah, that's a lot of early decisions to miss out on. One thought that I would be interested in would be to start with a worker, scout, warrior, and settler. Might nerf Exp very slightly, but that wouldn't be the worst thing. Still nicely bump up the early interest, although I'd pity poor Spain in that case. Maybe everyone gets The Wheel, so roads could at least start going down.

Why not just start Classical Age?

Switching from Pitboss to PBEM after about 20 turns sounds really interesting. How easy is that to setup?

Starting up a Pitboss host and loading a save is cake. Getting your router and firewall set up so people can connect to you takes a little more doing but is easy once you're familiar with it.

The hard part is getting everybody able to connect into a Pitboss game at the same time, with nobody bouncing off each others' firewalls or routers. Sometimes it just all works, or sometimes you get problems with as few as two people in the game. I have hardly any experience in that area.

A pitboss start surely doesn't really have much in the way of advantage over a blitz PBEM start does it?

From my experience, it takes substantially more time to send and recieve emails than to play the turn. I think pitboss would be enormously faster in the early "press enter" turns, and 2-3x faster during the later early game. As turn times grow longer, the advantage would diminish. Simultaneous turns pitboss would be a lot faster even in the late game, but you'd have the double move issues.
