Monty has been a direct neighbor in the my last 2 games, and he has always attacked, early and often. In my current game, I learned my lesson and went on a counter-offensive and took 2 of his cities, including the capitol. But I'm sure I'll need to finish him off soon.
In my first complete game, though, I had a surprise at the end. I was trying to play for a time victory, just to get a feel for the game mechanics. With 40 turns to go, I was in the lead (slim, about 200 points) over Isabella, when Ceasar attacks. I had been at war with him a couple of times through the game, and had taken one of his cities. I was using the Civ3 style of defense: just a handful of units, when he hits me hard with tanks and bombers. Took back the city, and dropped me into 2nd place. Well, then!
Cheers,
Michael
