Epic 1 - Jabah's report ...

... could be found here

No comment as you have to read the first pages for suspense lol...

Feel free to comment as usual (well I know the html pages are full of useless craps, but that is what I get using Word trying to do it fast as deadline was quite close...)

And I thought my start was hard! eek That was a very impressive recovery.

I remember seeing mention of Washington being at war once or twice, but was he fighting any more than that? He didn't seem to be much of a threat to you.

I'd also like to know what's up with the barb cities in the south (right next to the cows). There was one in that same spot in my game, and in Sullla's! (and there are lots of reports I haven't read yet, too!)

Washington, in my game, was attacked by (or did attack) Alex quite often (maybe 4 times), one of the reason is that some cities on their commun borders were under extermely heavy cultural pressure.

The barbarians cities, I realised after a few games, are usually in pretty good location regarding bonus squares. I guess there was not that many good places down in the jungle, so they probably ended in the same place in all our games.

You founded Orleans in the same spot as me. Aside from the early Pottery build, your early game was eerily similar to mine. I think you even finished Stonehenge on almost exactly the same turn I did. I did focus a little bit more on military though, with an early research of Hunting and Archery. And indeed, Temujin saw fit to declare war on you...

Losing Orleans early on, ouch! cry See, this is why it's not good to defend your cities with warriors early on. Of course, I had to have this lesson hammered home to me by Peter in a testing game back in June ages ago, so it's not like I'm any smarter than anyone else here, just more experienced. smile Shocking how close you came came to a Conquest loss in that early war - as tough as it was to sign peace in that situation, it was surely the best move.

Having those irons on hand was a huge stroke of fortune, but you deserved to get some luck by that point. One other thing to mention - your pictures display the clock, but not the date. That makes it kind of tough to follow what's going on sometimes...

The Pyramids weren't built until 630AD in your world?! OK, that officially irritates me. lol They were built in 200BC in my world. (Grouse, grouse, grouse - using Sirian's term.)

I was happy to see you dishing out some payback in the second Mongol war. I imagine he was wishing he hadn't signed peace with you earlier at that point! Solving the financial quagmire after gaining territory in war is one of the hardest skills to master in Civ4, but with more practice you'll get better at it. You did make a number of nice trades afterwards to start climbing out of the tech hole. What a nice recovery!

I have no clue how you managed to get to Liberalism so much earlier than I did despite all of your troubles early on. smile

After mopping up the Mongols and Aztecs, you had almost the same territory as I did at the end of my game. And, sure enough - Gandhi voted for Washington in your game too! What similar games we had at the beginning and the end. I'm ashamed that you lost most of your civ in BC and yet still were racing me at the end on finish time. I must have been doing something wrong in there! Probably didn't manage to trade as well with the AI civs as you did.

Yay, another true diplomatic domination victory! Jabah deserves the moniker of "comeback kid" for this one. nod

Saw that coming from a mile away. smile

Wow, all this reading. If we ever get a hundred reports from one event (twice the number here) I'm going to be snowed in for two weeks just trying to read half of them! 8)

It is not like it is the first time I am sneak attacked, I had in a private game even been aggressed by India (not Gandhi, the other one) sharing my religion and having +15 relations. It was however the first time it was that early, and having no Copper, no Archer (because delaying Archery far too long) and a far too long frontline was too much..

I think I could have done without the Iron, at that time I had secure the northern Copper from the Aztecs -up to now, I think I was the only one to go and settle this northern peninsula- definitely would have been a little bit more difficult with axe only instead of axe and sword.

The famous clock thing... I found the idea of having the time just in front of me prevent me (not much if you check the time) to keep playing until 4am with work the next day. RL time and Civ Date are displayed there changing from one to the other, and in general I was trying to 'screenshot' while date was showing (easy for general situation, but on completion of building or war declaration, you have to deal with what you have)

Thanks for the commentsthumbsup
