That's a gigantic issue for Riot, which needs to favor a large playerbase more than virtually any other company with their free to play model. The overwhelming majority of League players have never played a single Ranked game. But they also buy skins and champs, and that's where Riot cleans up. The simplicity of League compared to other games in this genre is the very reason why it's been succeeding so massively. And these changes move in the complete opposite direction.
I'm genuinely curious why they seem to be making the game more and more DOTA-like. I think it's a serious mistake in the long run. I guess we'll see.
League is becoming a competitive game and as such it has been really stale, the meta doesn't really change, all the same champions are good and the itemization is very straightforward (especially on AD carries). I figure Riot feels like it has a new mission to make sure that League keeps being entertaining to watch. It is so far, it might change in the future.
Of course, you can guess my opinion on the Season 3 changes...

I don't want the game to change, because then I have to adapt, and I only recently became somewhat passable at this game in this meta with these items(zhonya's op!).
On the other hand, I'm just going to end up copying whatever the accepted setup is for masteries and builds after like 2-3 months, unless some real itemization comes in, in which case that will be fun.
Meh.

Some interesting discussion on reddit about the new boot enchantments; for those of who you haven't seen it:

This is possibly the single thing I'm most excited about in the item rework. I think this is a fantastic idea, seemingly allowing for lots of fun and weird combinations. I'm looking forward to trying Ghost/Flash Ashe with Distortion boots.

Phage+Boots+Furor Teemo, building into frozen mallet and BotRK and Runaans. Teemo is going to be so fucking annoying. Also, the removal of tenacity from Merc Treads to Boots of Swiftness will be rather entertaining. It definitely is something that hasn't been discussed much...

I find all these changes to be completely overwhelming. The result will be that I probably stop playing ranked for quite a while, to digest all the changes, since I am still in my placement matches, and every game is worth 40 Elo.

Of course, everyone else will be digesting the changes as well, so while there'll be a disadvantage in absolute terms, there won't be in comparative terms...

Yeah, but I suspect the average player on here is better informed than the average LoL player, so the informational disadvantage probably disadvantages our players to a greater extent. While I have no evidence for this, I would bet most people on this site are tactically and strategically superior, but mechanically inferior, to the average player at their proper elo.

Well that isn't saying much. The average LoL player is terrible.

So, I have a very specific question I'd like to posit to the group. I'm hoping for detailed analysis on the why of your answers.
Why does Pantheon not get higher-level play?
My intuition is because he doesn't scale as well as other heroes. The ult does give global presence but isn't amazing. He has a small amount of CC and his cone dmg forces him immobile while firing. He can off-tank, but not nearly as well as Jax absorbing/dodging everything.
