[SPOILERS] Lurker discussion thread ... players keep out obviously

So why not just S3 + 1 Death, instead of S3 + 1 Death Affinity?

A shame the way things went down: a few more turns to prepare, and the elves might have been able to put up a good fight. Bad timing. And man, is Keelyn broken.

Mist Wrote:Brian still didn't present a reliable and coherent plan for his war and given his initial expansion he'll be probably backward in tech. And Kyan speeds unopposed towards Puppet Fuelled Water Elemental Swarm Of Doom ™.

I'll respond to the points in this one about me. First at the time I didn't have a proper plan (I ended up lucking into one really). But as regards expansion my one option was to attack the Grigori. My land to the north was turndra and mountain, my land to the east was tundra and mountain, my land to the west was sea, my land to the south wasn't mine. I was left with no options this game but to attack out as soon as I got an advantage (which honestly was only provided by Acalostas playing not very well).

As regards not settling the gold hill, that was a back line city that I could have settled any time, but out west I didn't know what was held and I needed an avenue for expansion out that way. If I didn't settle Limerick third I would have ended up playing a 3 city empire all game.

So...why again is this grand coalition not being pushed for? Too hard? It just boggles my mind, as it seems like not a single player in this game is playing to win anymore, besides maybe Kyan.

Because a) I was really busy at the time in real life (remember I'm travelling 150 miles twice a week for a course) and b) which really made me not bother, I wasn't getting anything back. I was perfectly willing at that stage to play out my own game and let Kyan win if nobody else was willing to push with me at that time. Even with a successful dogpile my odds of winning weren't good, so why push too hard on something that'll probably push your finishing position only up one place?

Also I sent off a large number of emails at that stage that never saw the light of day on my thread too.

Ilios Wrote:Wow, I'm really glad Spectres got nerfed in EiB...

Selrahc Wrote:Given that most of the units actually fighting the spectres seem to be undead, demons and elementals I think EitB would actually have been a buff to the swarm. The Spectres would be S4 rather than S3.

Spectres are really only a problem if the Vampires can get them early.

Anyone else trying Spectre spam (at tech parity against an opponent who understands the counters) is going to get WTFpwned by Spirit 1 conventional units backed up by Demons (like say, Pit Beasts) and or Life 2 Mages.

In it's current state EitB makes Death II completely worthless. Spectres are strictly worse than the other Level II summons without Death affinity.

Anyone else who had economic traits wouldn't have pyre zombies.

Hell, if anything, my undead units were a soft counter to mass puppet spectres, as I'd gain immunity to your death damage. Even that didn't matter because all your units were disposable and good screening would never let me punch through a stack of compressible skeletons or puppets and reach the valuable mages underneath.

DaveV only made that mistake once, and lost 6 mages out of what, 40? Shame I didn't roll more explosions during that battle.

If somebody has a fairly large mage army dedicated to spectre fighting... Then yeah, they probably can beat a spectre swarm. I think that is a far less common situation than you're making out.

Yeah. Spectres suck in EitB.
