RBP3 [SPOILERS] - Friendly Kittens (Ragnar of Maya)

Maniac Marshall Wrote:We're getting a 1 turn worker from FS next turn from the whip overflow.
Cool. So next turn, FS works its plains farm AND gems AND grass hill mine, giving up a hamlet, and completes the Worker exactly? Neat.

Quote:Note, it's size 10 now, so it'll grow next turn AND the following turn.
Well, next turn (T142) and Turn 144, since it's building a Worker next turn, right?

I'm out of the game now, by the way. Moved nothing. Changed nothing. Have a great weekend!

Well, yeah. Actually, not 100% positive it needs to work the plains farm next turn, but it DOES work the hills at least.

I would not have done this except it does make +10/+11 food, and will be able to pull the cottages in shortly. My plan after those other 2 workers was to build a Uni to double whip, then let it grow.

BTW: I do intend to give or share one of those farms with Temminck at some point.

Here's a complete world map for you, thanks to a trade with Byz:

Most of the land in the gaps along the desert is meh at best, although there's probably room for a couple good cities to the SE of Mali, and there's an interesting Corn+incense+total crap desert/desert hills site in the other big gap. You'll note all the land still available where France used to be however. We're eventually going to get the short end of the stick on land unfortunately.

I'll see if I can get an empire overview done tomorrow. I've not been feeling well the last few days, and have been sleeping as much as possible.

As far as naming of towns goes, I think we can give a refresher on how these are all related to cats:

Fierias - Homeworld of the Mrrshans, the catlike race from Master of Orion

Pride Rock - Home of Mufasa/Simba's pride from The Lion King

Temminck - Another name for the Asian golden cat, named so for an influential zoologist.

Feng Shui - "Happy Cat" Ever seen those chineese cat's that wave their paw at you? This is what they are called. With 3 luxury resources here, the name was a natural.

Kilrah - Home of the warrior race of catlike beings from the Wing Commander series. What better name for our HE city?

Huckwang Valley - An isolated valley in Burma, this is home to the world's largest Tiger preserve.

Ornata - Different species use this subspecies, but here we're not referring to the more common turtle, snake, or bird, but rather the subspecies more commonly known as the asiatic wildcat.

Red Dwarf - Yes, this has a cat connection. Named after the long running UK commedy, Red Dwarf is a space ship that's been drifting for 3 million years. The only survivors of a massive radiation accident are one human being, who was in stasis, and his cat, who was safely sealed away in the ships hold. Over the 3 million years, an entire race of catlike beings eveloved from the pet cat.

Smithsonian Park - Commonly known as the Nationa Zoo, this is one of the oldest zoos in the US, and as part of the Smithsonian Institution. It has a rather large collection of big cats.

Thundara - Is, of course, home of the Thunder Cats of the animated series.

Our next city will be named Savannah (it has lots of plains), which I don't think should need much explanation.

The site of our 12th city has been called Marble Garden Zone as a working name, after the awesomely fun zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 3. As cool as the name sounds, however, I can't make it come up with any connection to cats, so... I typed in marble cat and got a list of links to places that sell marble pattern bengal cats, the one with the Coolest name being Adventure Beach. Other alternatives include Siera Gold, or we could just name it something like Bengal Beach. Suggestions?

I would like to try to squeeze in some walls before we complete rifling. My understanding is that they do retain their defensive bonus vs non gunpowder units even after rifling, and with stone, they are effectively only 25 hammers.

Ummm, holy shit. The settler in HV did NOT complete. The city SAID it would complete in 1, but instead, the city grew, and we now have a settler with 99/100 hammers. Not sure what to do at this point. I suspect we'll just have to build the settler now, but you tell me.

I'm quite sure I did nothing wrong this time. The thought occurred that maybe an engineer was worked instead of a food tile, especially as the settler is not only 1 hammer short, but the city has 1 less food than calculated, but I'm quite positive that was not the case. There are still only 6 GP points in the city, and that's what it should have from earlier.

I see you're online. I'll get out so you can look at the game.

The only thing I've done so far is to whip the theater at Ornata, and offer/trade RP around.

EDIT: No, I also set FS up for it's 1 turn worker, and moved the missionary into Thundara. I've not moved any workers or done anything with any other cities.

Well, you WERE here, I didn't hallucinate that... I'll stay out of the game for now.

Forbidden Palace - Probably nowhere.
Globe Theater - Huckwang Valley
Hermatige - TBD
Heroic Epic - Kilrah
Ironworks - Fierias
Moai Statues - Uhh, nevermind
Mt, Rushmore - Pride Rock? IF we have time.
National Epic - Smithsonian Park
National Park - (Ref)Steel Claws (Or nowhere)
Oxford University - Feng Shui or Temminck?
Palace - Fierias
Red Cross - Pride Rock?
Wall Street - (If we get around to it) Feng Shui or Temminck
West Point - IF we get time to do this, Kilrah, but this wonder is so expensive it probably isn't worth it.

Heh - I was going to post something like this myself. Note the particular relevance of the Smithsonian's Great Cat exhibit (on Lion/Tiger Hill) to our hilltop NE city, source-to-be of numerous Big Cats.

Yeah, the closest I could come for my would've-been post was Blaze - a bit of a stretch, as she isn't really connected to the MGZ in any special way.

Quote:I typed in marble cat and got a list of links to places that sell marble pattern bengal cats, the one with the Coolest name being Adventure Beach.
Given that riverside is just about as close as anyone can get to a beach in this game (and the sheer humor value of naming something "Adventure Beach" on an all-land map) I would say this one can't be beat!

20 base hammers with OR and a forge - equivalent to a 30 hammer other-building build. I'm inclined to believe walls would be a *waste* of those hammers though. The probability of our cities being threatened by pre-gunpowder units at this point seems very slim. But ... eh.

Yeah. I'd look at this in more detail, but I'm frankly getting sick of Civ and its buggy behavior. Are you saying there are now 16 food in the bin? Because that should be impossible - we just grew with 34/34 food in the bin, and with our granary that should translate to 17. Whatever. No more impossible than 101 hammers and one turn to completion magically turning into 99 hammers and 2 turns to completion for no reason. Yay, civ!

I'm at work, and won't be able to log into the game until sometime tonight, if then. I have various plots, plans, and ideas that I'm reluctant to post because, whatever, Civ will just turn on Avoid Hammers or something and invalidate everything.
