luddite Wrote:So, based on this game, would be it be safe to say that these four things are true?
1) On the right map, Organized is a solid trait.
2) Philosophical is still not that great, but can do some neat stuff (like engineer rushing the pyramids)
3) The pyramids are really good, but they don't guarantee a win, even though you'd expect them to be really good combined with philosophical.
4) The MoM-Taj combo is extremely powerful.

Totally agree with #1. The other map where Org has shined was 26 and both maps were heavy on the lighthouses and toroidal to emphasize courthouses. Org almost seemed to get a bad rep, but I can see that if you're focusing on the maintenance reduction and not on the cheap buildings.

#2 & #3 I want to disagree with, but I'm not entirely sure I'd be right lol But look at mackoti's picks of Pericles in 23 and 24. Both those games turned out well for him. Still, if you're running a Great Person strategy with Pacifism and National Epic then the extra +100% from PHI doesn't really shine as much as you would expect it to.

#4 - Yep. Pretty dope combo that.

Yeah Mackoti did do well in those games... always hard to separate the trait from everything else though. In general it just seems like such an awkward trait. It seems to require you to do these weird gambits like oracle-forge-pyramids to get the best use out of it.

1. Man, Serdoa, did we do anything you didn't hate this game? lol
2. Way too much hand-wringing over the sellsword bit. I might not be a great player, but I'm not going to forget something I personally did in a previous game. And anyway, would have been stupid to sell the HAs - would have had to build something else to replace all the lost power. Power graph is important in all games, but especially no talking ones.

Quote:I don't know who said it, but Novice and Seven really shouldn't play together outside of dueling Krill or whatever. Maybe if they have more aggressive competent opponents...but Mackoti isn't one of those. Which is a pity, because if there ever was a time to fight a classical war against the beginning-to-snowball leaders, it's when everyone else in the game is trashing their own economies by flailing around in a Lewwyn-fight.

Well , most what i like how people change what they think , first i shouldnt played against Seven and Novice, and after well all happened becasue i played oragnizat and industrious. And at some point Novice and seven would have win even with Tokugava(i think Commodore said this fact too).

And agresiv its not when you have no chanse but you atack anyway its to know when its worth to atack and do so.

argeed ... on a Torodial map with lots of islands Org is probably in the top 3 simply due to many cities needing Lighthouses and Maintainence being a severe pain in the backside leading you to wanting to priotise Courthouses

To be perfectly honest i believe DeGualle of Sumer would have been for a more balanced game trait/civ wise ... but that said, I wouldn't mind revisiting the inital idea about prepicked civ/leaders at some point ... thinking about it a Stalin/Zulu could have been an interesting fit as well

Other than that ... I believe the game also proved that while Expansive is strong, its not strong enough to carry Protective through ... Fin/Pro might be able to pull though, but Exp/pro are just a wee bit to weak ... or also Babylon was a bit to weak a pick as well (although i doubt the problems was there)

I feel as if this should be related to the following...:

Commodore Wrote:Xenu would totally wreck the vets if somehow we could open a rift in spacetime. More violence, please.

lol If only.

Xenu - Insane, Violent? Are these my forum traits, Commodore?

Ceiliazul Wrote:Regarding Slowcheetah's extensive diplo, I see some general global correlations:
  • Spoiler thead posts ~ player skill
  • spoiler thread posts ~ diplo quantity
  • diplo quantity ~ good relations

Summary: good players tend to post more, and tend to chat a lot leading to good relations... further reinforcing the pattern of frst/second place alliances as noted in other games. Obvious exception: Mackoti. Any others?

1. FALSE - I won the post count among the greens! lol
2. I'll give this a half truth. I put a lot of effort into diplomacy but didn't get anywhere with it at a critical stage of the game
3. TRUE - I was on good terms with Slowwalk and never really considered going after them, as they seemed to be good long term allies.

Ceiliazul Wrote:Xenu is a pocket full of sunshine after the machine-like performances of many opponents. Like Lewwyn only less angry.

I don't think I've been called a pocket full of sunshine by anyone who has ever met me in meat space. And probably like Lewwyn, only slightly less angry, though in fairness you posted this before I played PB7 drunk a few times and let Seven get under my skin.

Agreed.

Yeah, it was cute that we could build PRO bowmen, but I don't think it kept anyone from invading. Maybe the closest was Dazed since we did have that one incident early on, but even then I think he was more interested in pushing IMP than in fighting a war. But I'm not done reading his thread yet, so I could be wrong. In general it felt a lot like I played this game with one trait, just EXP. But it's possible that the PRO benefit was there all along, only hidden; no one wanted to fight us because they knew it would be expensive to do so. Then again, normally you don't pick a fight with the guy in last place until you're ready to eat them smile

GG guys. I'll look forward to reading the vets game when I get a chance, and to finishing Dazed's and Kitties' threads. I've finished Kuro's and Sian's so far! lol

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon
