Not like you have PB18 dragging you down anymore.

RE: PB8, I'm pretty sure that 95 times out of a hundred you should have won that war. I'm still not quite sure how you didn't, nevermind the clusterboat afterwards.

Oh yeah, that is the truth. I think we tried to do too many things at once and didn't arrive at a single strategic concensus. Noble wanted to press and go on the offensive, scooter wanted to build The Great Lighthouse, and I wanted to hold the line in the west and expand northward. We ended up failing at all three.

I'll go sign up for SMEG, sure. That is actually something I can honestly commit to - when next term starts up in two weeks it won't matter if I disappear.

Turn 065

Not a lot between turns. Commodore built an axe in Scarlet, and it's his only power gain. It's the only power gain in the world, really; the other three opponents are doing their thing in peace.

Unit movement like so:

The eastern most archer is going to camp on the plains hill. The other units are going back to Breakside to heal/play zone. That settler will be whippable in 2t. I think that's about the time we offer peace. But I'm not repeating my pb18 mistake with dtay; we'll offer peace only when we know he can't beat us to the plains hill.

Whipped the granary at Coalition. And the work boat that is coming around the northern horn found our future Moai city location:

That will be a nice city; maybe I settle that as #8?

I think it's apparent to me that the map is balanced by giving Commodore much better access to islands. Whether that balances it out or not I don't know and don't really care to think about it. Not that I know what the mandate was either. pindicator claims it was "whatever Krill felt like." wink

Turn 066

A real bastard ending to this turn.

In foreign news, yuris125 whipped 2 population, possibly a settler for his fifith city. Wetbandit spent all of 2 turns teching something that has no power associated with it, so either Masonry or Priesthood. I could see him going for the Oracle here. And Commodore and flug were pretty null. No power changes, which means no new units from Commodore.

First off, the war:

Talking with Noble last night and we decided that we needed to switch Breakside to an axe. We'll whip the axe next turn (67), overflow to an archer (68), switch back to settler (69), whip the settler (70), and settle the city (71). Or if more units come we may have to change all that and bring the settler being built in Amnesia south while we just pump units out of Breakside. It's a shame, because if I could have kept building the settler this turn, then I could have possibly asked for peace next.

Our core:

I pulled the warrior MP out of Pelican, putting the city into unhappiness for 1 turn. We don't lose any time on the worker being built, because this is the last turn of whip unhappiness from our last whip, and we make 13fh/t with the unhappy citizen and 14fh/t with the happy citizen. The 5th citizen is working a bare forest tile, and remember that unhappy citizens do not take up food when building a worker or a settler. So we're only losing 1 hammer by moving the warrior out a turn earlier, which means the archer from Amnesia can be replaced as MP and move south towards Breakside a turn earlier. And I want every unit possible in the south for that war.

Leon's is stuffed with an archer and a spear; the barb axe will attack at end of next turn.

Finally, this is the last turn of saving gold that needs be done. Math is down to 6t at 100%, and I have 21gpt in expenses.

And so I ended turn, and then cursed the game

Oh man xenu, that does feel like my luck. Commodore keeps kicking me in the face and I keep signing up for more. Why can't i just stay down?

Anyway!

Turn 068

The barbarian axe lost mightily against the archer at Leon's, so we moved our spear towards the battlefront. And Commodore has sat still with his units camped on that devil-spawn of a forest right outside Breakside.

The overflow from our whipped axe is going into a 1-turn archer. Another archer is coming down from Amnesia and will be on the scene next turn. In all, we'll have 7 units ready to attack Commodore's 2, at which point I'm happy to ask for peace.

He built 2 axes on t67, but they have not yet appeared. Instead he founded 2 new cities this turn, making me think he's just being annoying now and does not plan to contest the plains hill plant with any seriousness.

In the core of the empire...

The stone quarry finished this turn. I think Breakside likely builds some walls right after we get that settler whipped; stone will be hooked up in 2 turns. Also, Pelican finished our 5th worker. Yeah, a little worker light right now, but that's why we're whipping so much. That will change as more tiles get improved. Pelican went straight into the next worker.

Wondering what to do with all those trees. Hammams are great but expensive. And wonders are great but expensive. Religion would be good to revolt to if it would ever spread...

Turn 071

I guess it had only been three turns since I updated last; it somehow feels longer.

On turn 69 we attacked out against Commodore's axe/archer pair sitting outside Breakside. The first axe to boldly strike out against the fortified, shock axe in a forest, had a 1% odds of success (literally), and while he lost he did do his job, bringing the evil Commodorian barbarian brute to 72hp. This gave the second axe a 1-in-5 shot of actually winning:

[Image: pbem64%20-%20turn069%20-%20axe%20attack2.jpg]

And he won! That battle gained 5xp in itself hammer

The archer was dispatched in a similar way: first the archer from Amnesia took him down a few pegs in a 5% battle, and then the archer to the south cleaned up.

We moved to occupy the forest hill between us and Commodore to prevent Commodore from harassing us further and offered peace:

The peace has been declined, but Commodore does not appear to be making moves against us ... yet. He has built more units lately, as his production this game is double that of pretty much anybody else we've met. Right now I have him down for 3 axes and a chariot empire-wide (his horses were hooked up just a few turns ago), so we've added a spear to our mountain-stack.

This has given us sufficient buffer to finally settle Ecliptic (they make a nice porter, but it happened to be the brewery I had just gotten back from when it was time to settle this city. This is the level of thought that gose into these names!) and remove the threat of him settling on that plains hill!

I've offered peace once more and if he declines again then I've resolved to Commodore being Commodore and us just being at a state of permanent war. Regardless, I am taking advantage of having control of the battlefield to bring south some workers and chop out all those nasty trees. Getting some Math-fueled hammer chops in will go a long way towards helping get 1) units and 2) culture buildings. We're only 5 culture points behind Commodore in control of the hill tile; it's important to get to 100 culture in Breakside before he does. To satisfy both unit and culture goals, a barracks is the first build.

In the core of the empire we're mostly building workers and whipping stuff. Leon's has finished it's granary and is starting a new archer; it's current MP is going to head NE to Coalition for when the galley completes eot74. Sadly the galley can only complete that turn by working a plains tile, so the worker that hooked up the stone is now cottaging said plains. There's good odds I improve over that tile later on; or not, who knows.

We are also just 2 turns away from a settler out of Amnesia for city #7, but it is delayed one turn because 1) Amnesia is finally rid of it's whip anger and 2) the settler would arrive 1 turn too soon for the galley as it currently stands.

The capital has just whipped a worker after building one naturally, and that pair will likely be cottaging and chopping out buildings.

As for wonders, I'm not sure we have the production to do any seriously. Yuris has already landed the game's first, taking advantage of his mostly-isolated state (too far south, minor nitpick) and built The Great Lighthouse. I've marked the resources he has hooked up with signs so we have a decent idea of how far north he's come.

If our economy wasn't starting to crash I think I'd be racing south to block him off.

And just because I care, here's some updated graphs from after ending turn:

[Image: pbem64%20-%20turn071%20-%20eot%20gnp.JPG]

[Image: pbem64%20-%20turn071%20-%20eot%20mfg.JPG]

[Image: pbem64%20-%20turn071%20-%20eot%20crop.JPG]

[Image: pbem64%20-%20turn071%20-%20eot%20power.JPG]

Short version is we're losing on production badly, doing decent on GNP, and if we can actually get some happiness to our cities (ivory and city #7!) then we should be in good shape for making that food edge actually tell.

You know, you can't tell it from the power graph, but we have actually killed more of Commodore's units (13k power) than we have lost (9k power).

If Commodore asks why I'm taking my time with the turn again can a lurker ask him why he has to throw his game just to grudge match with me every time we play?

Or just remind him what his record is in these games where he decides "the best strategy" is to attack me until I'm dead. Hint: he's still looking for his first win with that strategy
